My First Fan-Fic

They were under the water so long that Emily was beginning to think that they might all drown. Her mind was very fuzzy and she couldn't think very well. She could feel Lucy beginning to loose her grip and she struggled to keep her with them. Then, oh good! Light! Then, their heads broke the surface of the water and they were all gasping for breath and trying to hold onto to slippery block of ice that they were on. Lucy screamed and Emily pulled her back up as she started to slip. They were all there, but they hadn't made it to shore yet. Lucy started to slip again, and Emily grabbed her and held onto the little girl tightly. Lucy was very tired.
"Come on," Emily whispered. "Stay with us Lucy!"
The little girl opened her eyes wearily. "What?"
"Come on Lucy!" Emily said. "Don't go to sleep! I know you're tired, but you must stay awake!"
Lucy looked at her through half closed eyelids.

"Come on, Lucy!" Emily said. "You can make it!" Suddenly, they hit a rather large wave and Emily clung to the ice with all of her might. A few minutes later, she noticed that Lucy was gone. She looked around franticly, trying to find Lucy, only to see the little girl's head disappearing beneath the water. Desperatly, Emily slid off of the ice and swam after Lucy, taking no heed of the others' cries and shouts.

She knew that she couldn't let Lucy slip away from her like the others had. She had the power to save her, and she would. Emily swam to the place where the little girl had disappeared. Paying no attention to Susan's frantic shouts, Emily dove down, opening her eyes under water to try and see. After searching around for a few moments, she saw her. Lucy. Emily grabbed hold of the girl and began bringing her back up to the surface. It was hard going and Emily expected now that they would probably both be drowned.

Finally, both girls' heads broke the surface and Emily gasped for breath. she could barely see and her mind was to fuzzy to make sense out of anything. Someone grabbed her, and she clung to Lucy, fearing almost insanely that she might loose the little girl. Then, she was out of the water. Several people that she recognized were standing over her, but then, everything went black.

Darkness. It was cold, so cold. She ached all over. Darkness. She couldn't see. A laugh. It was strange, as cold as the darkness itself. A voice. Strange and horrible. "You worthless creature! Did you really think that you and your friends could defy me and get away with it?" Icey fingers touched her face. "You'll die, just like the rest of them!" She fought against the cold, the darkness, the voice, but they would not release her. "No!!" she screamed. She heard the laugh again. It's cruel sound felt like knives, digging into her. She writhed in pain and agony. "Let me go!" she screamed again. Silence. Darkness. Cold.

Emily sat up, straight as arrow, breathing hard.
"Emily!" Susan said. "You're alright! What's the matter?" Susan reached out to try and comfort the fightened girl; but Emily backed away, shaking her head.
"Em?" Peter said, "are you alright? You look like you've seen a ghost."
Emily managed to gasp out, "Lucy?"
"I'm fine, Emily," Lucy said. "I'm here."
Mr. Beaver shifted from one paw to the other uncomfortably. "We should get moving again," he said.
Peter nodded. "Alright then." He helped Emily to her feet and they all continued on. Emily and Lucy both were pretty tired, but they were still in danger. They had to keep moving.

As they walked through the woods, they all noticed a change in their surroundings. The snow was melting away, flowers were popping into sight and the trees were beginning to get their leaves back. It was getting warmer, too, so the children took off their coats and left them hanging on a large fallen branch. The birds began to sing their spring time songs, and everyone felt much better. Emily, however, still felt very cold. It was probably because of her encounter with evil while she had been unconcious. She had still not told the others about it. Something inside of her was nagging at her, telling her that she needed to tell them about it, but she didn't want to.
Susan noticed that Emily looked rather pale and asked, "Emily, are you feeling well?"
Emily shook her head, afraid to answer.
"What's wrong?" Susan asked.
"I don't know," Emily replied. She could still feel those icy fingers gripping her, preventing her from feeling the warmth of the new spring. She shuddered.

you'll find out!

........
Susan knew that something had happened. "What was it?" she asked.
"I don't know," Emily replied.
"What happened then?"
Emily shuddered again. Even though it was warm she felt like she had been put in a freezer. "I - I don't want to talk about it."
Lucy touched Emily's hand. "Emily!" she said. "You are freezing!"

Emily didn't look at Lucy. She knew without someone telling her that she was freezing. She could feel it. Every little breath of air felt like little needles. She couldn't bear the pain, but she couldn't bear to scream or cry either.
"Emily?" Lucy said again. "Emily, what happened?"
Emily shook her head. "I - I can't tell you."
Lucy looked frightened.
The beavers and Peter were further a head and so they heard none of this conversation.
"Emily, if something is wrong, we need to know so we can help you," Susan said.
"You can't help me!" Emily said. She looked hopeless. "No one can! No one ever will be able to!"
