............
Mr. Beaver looked worried. "We must get you to Aslan all the quicker. We haven't a moment to loose!"
"Is Emily in danger?" Lucy asked.
Mrs. Beaver answered, "Yes dear, grave danger. We must hurry!"
So they set off again at a much quicker pace. While they were walking, Mr. Beaver was talking to Peter.
"What happened to her," Peter asked, nodding in Emily's direction.
"It's what the Witch does to her enemies sometimes. It's nearly worse than becoming a statue. It's rather like freezing to death; you cannot feel heat, and you cannot bear to be near something that is warm, because it hurts. You feel incredible pain every time something warm touches you. Eventually, you feel cold to the others around you and you turn very pale. If you cannot get help, you die."
Peter bit his lip. "We'll get there in time, won't we?" he asked.
"If we are not delayed, we'll get there in plenty of time," Mr. Beaver responded.

"What bothers me, though," continued Mr. Beaver, "is the fact that she didn't go after the four of you like that."
"What do you mean?" Peter said.
"Well, the Witch must consider Emily as nearly a greater threat than the four of you, or else she's loosing her mind. It's all very strange if you ask me."
"That explain why the wolf recognized her, though," Peter said.
"Yes, it would, very much so. The witch wants that girl dead for some strange reason, so it only makes sense that the wolves would know about her."
"But what is it about Emily that the Witch finds so threatening?" Peter asked.
"That, Son of Adam, is one of the greatest mysteries of our time."

A cloud covered the sky, or so it seemed to Emily. It became dark, and she could no longer see the faces of her friends, as she had come to think of them. It was unbearably cold. Darkness. Why wouldn't it leave her alone? Something cold and hard siezed her. She struggled, but she could not get free. The cold fingers twisted themselves around her. She couldn't breathe. She couldn't scream or cry out for help. Help. She wanted it now. The voice. She hear it again, laughing in extreme hatred. "Worthless wretch!" it screamed. "What made you think you could escape me? Ha! It's only a matter time before you are mine forever! You cannot escape me! The darkness will surely take you!" Emily screamed and struggled against the grasp of the cold and the darkness, but it didn't seem to do anything.

Emily opened her eyes slowly. She felt very dizzy and much colder than she had a few minutes ago.
"Thank goodness!" Susan cried. "She's still alive."
Lucy wiped several tears away and leaned over Emily. Lucy had been crying, hard. "Are you alright?" the little girl asked in a whisper.
Emily winced. "That's pretty hard to tell," she answered; and then tried to sit up. It was hard going, and took her a little while, but she managed. She felt so tired and she hurt all over.
"Can you stand, dear?" Mrs. Beaver asked.
"I can try," Emily whispered. Talking used up so much of her energy, it seemed. So she bit her lip and threw her self into the task of standing up. She was very unsteady and she felt even dizzier than she had when she had been lying down. Her mind was very fuzzy and she couldn't think at all. Then, she blacked out.
