My First Fan-Fic

Susan and Lucy were both silent. Both longed to say something that would help Emily, but they had no idea what on earth they should say. Lucy slipped her hand into Emily's and said, "Emily, you may not want to talk about it now, but we'll always be here to listen."
Emily sighed. "Thanks, Lu."
Susan put a hand on her shoulder. "Lucy speaks truth, Emily. We're always here for you."

Emily choked back her tears. "Thanks," she whispered.
"You're welcome," Susan said softly, smiling at her.
Lucy tightened her grip on Emily's fingers and whispered, "Emily, was it -" she paused and shuddered. "Her?"
Emily looked startled. "What?"
Lucy looked up at Emily. "Her - you know - the Witch?"
Emily shook her head. "I don't know."
They continued on in silence for quite a while after that. Peter looked back over his shoulder and called, "Hurry up, slow pokes! Mr. Beaver says we're nearly there now!"
Lucy giggled and ran up to him. "Will you give me a piggy back ride then?" she asked.
Peter laughed. "Of course I will, Lu." He let Lucy climb onto his back. "Hang on," he said.
Lucy poked him. "Faster, horsey!" she giggled.
Peter nieghed like a horse and galloped about with Lucy who was laughing and poking him.
Susan and Emily both laughed at this.

Emily sighed. "I used to do that with Ryan," she said softly.
Peter stopped and Lucy turned her head. "Who is Ryan?" the little girl asked.
"He - he was my little brother," Emily said.
"Was?" Peter inquired.
"Ryan was killed in a bombing raid," Emily whispered. "He was six years old. You remind of him in some ways, Lucy."
"Oh, Emily!" Susan cried. She flung her arms around the sad girl and hugged her.
Emily looked a little uncomfortable, but she hugged Susan back. "I - I'd rather not talk about it," she said.
Peter nodded. "If you ever do want to, though, we'll always be here," he said.
"Thanks."

Peter gave Lucy a piggy back for most of the rest of the way and Susan walked with Emily and the Beavers. Emily was very quiet, and she watched Peter and Lucy laughing and shouting. Lucy was still poking Peter and giggling, and Peter would laugh and run in a circle whenever she did.
Mrs. Beaver said, "Emily, are you alright? You look terribly pale."
Emily sighed. "I don't know what's wrong with me...." she murrmured.
Mrs. Beaver put out her paw and touched Emily's hand. She gaped. "Emily! You are freezing!"
Mr. Beaver turned. "What is it?" he asked.
"Emily is freezing!" Mrs. Beaver cried.
Mr. Beaver knew that something was up, so he walked over and said, "Emily, you must tell us what happened."
"How do you know that something happened?" Emily asked.
"Because I've seen things like this before. Tell us everything."
So, after a lot of coaxing, they finally got the tale out of Emily about what had happened to her when she had been unconscious.
