Once Edmund had rested a little, they all had breakfast, and while they ate, they talked. Edmund, of course, was a little curious to know about Emily's past, and so she told him about what had happened to her. He was very quiet afterwards, and looked like he was thinking. His brother and sisters had noticed that he seemed to think a lot more than he used to. Peter, too, was thinking about something that morning.
Finally, Susan asked, "Peter, what's wrong?"
"I - I've been thinking about this a lot and, well, I've come to the conclusion that it isn't safe for you here."
"Peter, what are you trying to get at?" Edmund asked.
Susan sighed. "Do you mean that we're going home?"
"Yes, you are," Peter said.
"But Peter -" Lucy began.
"No, Lucy. I promised to take care of you. You must go back, and I'll stay," said Peter, cutting her off.
"But they need us; all five of us!" Lucy said.
Emily sighed. "True. And you're not my brother, Peter; so I can stay if I want to."
"Both of them are right, Peter," Edmund said. "These people need us, and we have to help them! I can't leave them to suffer for what I've done to them."
They were all silent for a moment.
"Well," said Susan, standing up. "I suppose that's it then."
"Where are you going?" Peter asked.
Susan laughed and picked up her bow and quiver. "To get in some practice."
