Ross then said, "Let's go watch the special-needs kids do their hundred-yards run. They want people cheering, even though there's no winner or losers."
 
Summer started to walk towards the soccer field. On the way she saw a booth for a Christian radio broadcasting company interviewing people from the town.
 
Mark, trying to be light in mood, said, "Chilena, if you've dumped your boyfriend Dan, why couldn't * I * be your next hand-holder?"
 
Mark silently, but obviously, looked at Chilena's hand that was clasped in Ross' hand. And Ross looked guilty or embarrassed, as if maybe he HAD thought he was getting Chilena for himself.
 
" You so weird," she told him, rolling her eyes " If I did you two be the first one to know," she told them, locking her fingers with Ross's " Ross sweetie I talk to your lovely cousin be right back," she told him, pulling Mark with her.
 
"I shouldn't have said anything," mumbled Mark. "But since I _have_ said something: Dan was talking about you to all the guys he knows during the first week of public school. Talking in a nice way, saying how great you were and how lucky he was to be going out with you. Then he gets sick for awhile, and you let yourself be seen here holding hands with another guy--what do you _expect_ people to think? You would have heard about it from someone else if you didn't hear it from me."
 
She laughed " Oh, wow you think I like Ross ew no Mark!," she told him, shaking her head " You know me better then that!," she told him, walking away from him " Ross I'll you later," she told him.

Mark wasn't letting her off that easy. He overtook her and said, "Chilena, the point is what you'd make people THINK. Haven't you ever noticed how careful Pastor Stetzer is NEVER to spend time alone with other women? Even though he's faithful to Isobel, AND even though SHE knows he's faithful, it makes a difference to his ministry that he doesn't even let STRANGERS think he would cheat. What if, before the next time you see Dan, someone like that gossip-girl Ivy has spread a rumor that you're flirting with Ross? How would Dan feel, knowing that people think he's been played for a fool?"

She looked at him oddly I don't like him that way he well like a brother to me so are you," she told him " Dan know I not do something like that any way," she told him.

Fragments of this conversation were heard by Ivy from school. Before the day was over, while still unknown to Chilena, four of Ivy's closest friends were telling still other kids that Chilena had been seen passionately making out with Ross.
 
" No, we fine it's Mark you know my friend well I think he thinks I like Ross but I don't," she told her, still not looking up at her " It was all confusing mistake because I was holding Ross's hand, but not like I do with Dan," she told her.
 
OOC: Hannah, you really need to pay closer attention to what is said in posts. Mark said that even _without_ Chilena actually feeling romantic toward Ross, _other_ people might believe, though mistakenly, that a romance was going on.


"Well, honey," said Cecilia, "if Dan does get the wrong idea from any talk, Alipang will back you up. I know Dan respects your brother, and will set a lot of store by his word supporting yours. Why don't you phone Al about this?"
