"I was prepared to survive _not_ being able to have Kim as my girlfriend," Alipang went on; "but then my stupid--excuse me, I mean to say that Kim FOUND OUT how I feel about her--and while she was with another boy!"

Meanwhile, the East High girl named Sarah, whom Chilena had seen occasionally, approached Dan and Chilena to say, "Chilena! I don't believe it--but Ivy says it's true. Did your brother _really_ make out with an 18-year-old senior girl this afternoon?"

Dan was in pure shock. He couldn't believe it -- was it really true? He had never really seen Ivy and didn't know her that well, so he turned to Chilena to see what she would say about this.

(OOC: Are you still going to be playing her character, Copperfox?)

Erin winced. " Ouch. that must not be very fun. How do you think this will be solved? I mean, people will definitely exaggerate their stories as the gossip gets around..."

For one more post--

"I can guarantee you," Chilena replied sadly to them both, "Alipang was NOT making out with Kim or anybody. He was with me almost every minute of today; and he's feeling bad about NOT having a girlfriend."

ooc: Should I switch over to Jen or Ollie?

ic: Dan exhaled, almost with relief. He didn't think that Alipang would do that... it didn't sound like that would happen between them when Dan last spoke to him about her.

"The heck of this, is that no exaggeration is _needed_ to make it a disaster. If Kim hadn't been told what I feel about her, then I would still be _frustrated_ at not having her, but I wouldn't be made to look like an idiot for _wanting_ a girl so far above me socially."

Erin frowned. "Hey, don't beat yourself up, dude! Maybe this happened for a reason, you know? Maybe you were obsessing over her too much and God kinda had to smack you on the head."

Jen had just finished changing into something appropriate for the Labor Day events that would be happening that day. She had some skinny jeans, Converse, a white t-shirt, and a light blue sweatshirt over that. She jogged over to the park to see everything being set up. Then, Jen began looking around for anyone familiar.

AL TO ERIN: "Funny you should mention hitting. Ever see a John Wayne or Clint Eastwood movie where the hero pretends he _isn't_ going to punch a guy, but then he _does_ punch the guy? Well, if God judged I needed a punch for wishing I could have Kim in my life, He faked me out first.

"Only yesterday morning, at church, I spoke to _Missus_ Tisdale about my feelings for Kim. I did that for the very purpose of telling her I _didn't_ have any expectations with Kim, so Kim wouldn't have to feel bothered by me. All Mrs. Tisdale had to do was say, 'That's a very mature attitude, Alipang, and I wish you luck with fifteen-year-old girls.' I would have been home free: no girlfriend, but the dignity of showing I knew my place in the scheme of things. But NO-O-O-O!! Mrs. Tisdale had to go and _encourage_ me to hope for Kim to return my feelings!

"My family and Kim's family are supposed to go up to Assateague Island next Saturday--you know, in the Barrier Islands on the Atlantic, the one with wild ponies living there. My Mom and Mrs. Tisdale set that up together, _specifically_ for the sake of me and Kim getting to spend time together _without_ calling it a date. We all agreed that if I had any chance with Kim, it was by my gradually growing on her over time. But thanks to Chilena--" (he forgot to be indirect about the blabbermouth) "--that's all ruined. Kim _knows_ I'm stuck on her, and there hasn't been time for me to become anything in her eyes but a little boy who can fight with his fists and a knife or a stick."

Jen scanned through the growing sea of faces. More people were coming for the concert and other events. She spotted Alipang talking to Erin. She made her way against the tide and stumbled over to them.

"Hey, Alipang," she said with a smile.

Might as well tell another of my army of just-friends female friends, Alipang groaned mentally.

"Hi, Jennifer. You remember the new family eating at the Pansit Paradise eight days ago? The Tisdales? A good-looking divorced mother with three good-looking daughters and one mega-scorching hottie daughter? You must have noticed me looking at that one, the only one of them who attends East High. Well....you won't be seeing anything _more_ than that happening between me and Kim Tisdale. In fact, if you know of any monastic orders I can join and still practice dentistry like my Dad, let me know."

Jen raised an eyebrow. "That quickly?"

"If you mean my hopes--if I even had any--being smashed quickly, they were. Kim found out within the last three hours how I feel about her--and the person who told her, did it while Kim was with another boy. Kim was totally blindsided by it, which goes to show that nothing I had said to compliment her since I met her gave her any clue about my feelings.

"And her cluelessness is because of my being younger, plain and simple. In her mind, I _shouldn't_ have a crush on her. In a past generation, the walls between Kim and me would have been because I'm Asian and she's white, along with my family being a lot richer than hers. But nowadays, the great unforgiving divider is age."

Since Alipang had told Summer part of his woeful news by cellphone while he had been at Rafferty's Truck Stop with Chilena, he simply returned the greeting, though unable to conceal his gloom.

G2G

Summer looked at Alipang. "Cheer up Al. It's not the end of the world no matter what you may think. Why don't you go say hi to my dad? He's over by the stage. He decided to come out of the house. All thanks to you."

Summer, Jennifer and Erin could all see that THIS--proof of his having done something that mattered--finally DID cheer up the woebegone man-child. "Hey, Grant was in on this too; but I'm really glad, Summer. Let's go see him!"

"Hello," Jennifer said when she saw Summer. "How is it that your father is wheelchair-bound?"

"Well," Summer said, "he was kind of beaten up by some robbers...now he's disabled."

"Oh my gosh!" Jen said with a gasp. "Thats awful!"

Summer's Dad recognized Alipang--and soon was responding to knock-knock jokes.

"Knock, knock!" "Who zere?"
"Eric." "Erk who?"
"Eric conditioner."

"Knock, knock!" "Who zere?"
"Catsup." "Cashup who?"
"Catsup a tree; got to get her down."

"Knock, knock!" "Who zere?"
"Hiram." "Hurm who?"
"Hiram fine, how are you?"

"Knock, knock!" "Who zere?"
"Orange." "Orzhe who?"
"Orange you glad I know a lot of knock-knock jokes?"

Jen saw Ollie, one of her old lacrosse coaches, coming from somewhere behind the stage. She said hi to him and then lead him over to where Summer and Alipang were with Summer's dad.

"Guys, this is one of my family's old friends Oliver," Jen said.

"Just call me Ollie," he said, and then smiled to Alipang. "You look familiar!" he laughed.

Shaking hands with Ollie, Alipang said, "I narrated the Escrima demonstration a few hours ago. I was actually a fighter in the same demonstration at last year's picnic and the year before that. As a younger kid, you might have seen me in some group outings by homeschooling families. I'm also a waiter at the Pansit Paradise--the best (and only) Filipino restaurant in this county. And my Dad is the leading dentist in Smoky Lake, a title which I intend to earn in my turn."
