Before Chilena knew it, Alipang had grabbed her keys. "Rest your arm, O licensed driver, and by your very presence make ME legal to drive your car. Just as far as Lakeshore Park;" and he got in the driver's side, unlocking the passenger door for his sister.

" Oh, I wanted to ride with you but that's OK I'll go ride with Al," she told him, with a sigh then trun around to Al " Aw way thank you kind sir," she told him.

Dan was a little confused. Didn't Al only have his permit? Dan shrugged it off and got into the car, sticking his keys into the ignition.

Once they were in the car and out of Dan's hearing, Alipang leaned close to Chilena and hissed, "Sweets, I love you to pieces and then I love the pieces to pieces; but you have GOT TO start paying attention to things! I do not have a driver's license yet, well DUH. If no licensed driver rides with me, I am NOT ALLOWED BY LAW to drive a motor vehicle. If you rode in Dan's car with him, what was left behind here at Rafferty's would be one car PLUS one UN-licensed driver, which EQUALS Alipang walking home. You don't want Dan to hear you say things like you said about wanting to ride with him, or he might think you're not so bright--whereas I know your brain's okay, it's just that you don't USE it to think things through."

He started the engine and pulled out flawlessly, but his patience with his sister was wearing thin.

Dan turned on the local radio and listened to some news. The All-American Rejects were going to perform at their Labor Day concert, as well as some local bands, and Fall Out Boy. He turned off the radio as soon as the park was in sight.

Alipang parked near where Dan did, and led Chilena to him. Chilena had a slightly downcast expression, like a small child who has needed to be scolded about something, but she brightened up when she saw Dan smiling at him.

"You two have fun," said Alipang; "I'll go see if the Imadas would like me to give them a late hand at the Pansit concession. But first, Sis, I'll give Mom your keys and let her know where your car is now." Then he was gone.

Erin was walking along enjoying the day when she saw Alipang alone and looking very unhappy. Figuring that it might have to do with his crush, Kim, she walked up. Curious, Erin asked Alipang, "Hey, Alipang, what's wrong?"

"All I know," Chilena replied to Dan, "is that when I glimpsed Brendan at the Escrima exhibition, Jennifer wasn't with him. But I didn't get to ask him about Jen, because....that was when I started grilling Kim about whether she liked my brother."

Dan nodded. "Maybe I could invite her to hang out with us at the concert?" he asked, pulling out his cell phone.

(Meanwhile, Ollie was taking pictures of the bands that were preparing to go on stage in the next few hours)

The young man sighed. "Hi, Erin. Say, have you got any _larger_ constrictors? One who could dislocate her jaws far enough to swallow ME? Then I wouldn't have to face Kim Tisdale ever again, until we meet in Heaven where the saints are never _humiliated_ beyond belief."

Erin gave a small smile," It was that bad, huh? Sorry, I don't have a bigger snake...Anyways, I don't think you would taste very good." Erin said in attempt to lighten the mood.

The joke passed right over Alipang's head.

"Since you're _bound_ to hear about it, I might as well tell you the _true_ version, as opposed to Ivy's version." Suddenly his own words momentarily brightened his face: "Of course, when _this_ hits the gossip line, what might be said about Chilena's homeschool pals will fade out of--" Realizing he was talking to himself, he turned toward Erin once more.

"I'm at a bad spot on the life-span. I'm old enough to fall in something like love with a girl who is legally an adult--but _not_ old enough for her to take me seriously. In fact, if she _did_ take me seriously, we would have to take special precautions to make it plain to the world that nothing immoral was going on--or else she could be, oh Lord, she could be _arrested_ on account of my being legally a minor!"

"I was prepared to survive _not_ being able to have Kim as my girlfriend," Alipang went on; "but then my stupid--excuse me, I mean to say that Kim FOUND OUT how I feel about her--and while she was with another boy!"

Meanwhile, the East High girl named Sarah, whom Chilena had seen occasionally, approached Dan and Chilena to say, "Chilena! I don't believe it--but Ivy says it's true. Did your brother _really_ make out with an 18-year-old senior girl this afternoon?"
