"I'm being a poor substitute for Weird Al," said Gilberto in a tone which assured her that the nickname for Alipang was meant in a friendly way. "What I mean is, our top student got himself hurt because he was proving his self-discipline by _not_ putting out a school bully's lights, so now he's only able to do the talking part of the presentation. And I'm the most senior student available to stick-spar with Master Imada, so I'm taking Alipang's place physically.

"The things we do for love! Alipang let himself get beat on because he's hooked out of his mind on a _senior_ girl at East, and she was accusing him of being violent or something; so he played punching bag to prove to _her_ that he could control his temper. I don't know if she likes him any better for it; but I know that he won't be in fighting shape again for weeks."

Now Chilena was at ease once more; now Alipang could and did kiss her. "That's to thank you for making me run. Hardly hurts at all;" and he held her close against him so she wouldn't see the slight wince on his face.

" Oh, your welcome then," she told him, taking her arm " Come lets go home and get us dry," she told him, with a smile.

Alipang turned playfully indignant. "US dry? Let me remind you that ALL the squirting was going in ONE direction! You're talking like the Principal--'both sides guilty.' So....I might as well BE guilty!" Having the water pistol in his possession now, he emptied all the remainder of its contents down the back of her neck.

"Gun's empty now; that puts us on equal footing. Well, not entirely equal in every way;" and, emboldened by the limits of his pain, he recklessly shot his left arm down behind Chilena's legs, scooped her up off her feet, and headed forward carrying her in his arms, gauging the pain and finding it not intolerable.

Alipang ended up carrying Chilena all the way home--which would have alarmed their parents, if all the rest of the family hadn't already been away at Lakeshore Park. He didn't let her down till they were at the front door, where he needed his hands to get his key and unlock the door.

"Oh, are you wet again? Here, let me wring you dry;" and he gathered her into his embrace, squeezing her in a slightly twisting way, as if to imitate the action of wringing out a washcloth.

He paused to kiss Chilena in return before letting go of her. As they headed upstairs to change in their respective rooms, he told her, "If I ever go into any form of competitive fighting, I think I'll officially call myself Weird Al."

Meanwhile, at the lakefront, Wilson Kramer and his son Quinn were checking out the first booths and activities ready at the festival. Finding Jason's anime stand, they bought two pictures Quinn liked.

" You are Weird Al," she told him, rolling her eyes " Come on before mum and dad think we went missing," she told him, walking out of her room.

{ Assume a very reasonable price paid by Mr. Kramer. }

"Glad to do it, Jason. And here's something I brought for you and your sister." He handed Jason a folder, which contained recruitment and career information on the U.S. Border Patrol and other federal entities. "This isn't putting you off from talking with me in person about the job choices; it's just to get you started."

Alipang and Chilena got as far as the bottom of the stairs before he wrapped her in his arms again. "My turn, sweets, to say 'Don't leave me.' I say this in a sense that allows us each to marry someone and so on; but please always be _some_ part of my life;" and he kissed her once more.
