Erin asked the boy," are you excited?" the boy eagerly nodded. "ok," Erin handed him a brownish pellet, "this is mouse meat, Sky loves these!" the boy's eyes widened, and he took a deep breath as he took the treat. Sky had smelled the treat nearby and was waving her head in the air. "Just hold it like this," Erin instructed, "and she'll eat it right up!"

"Thank you, dear," said Cecilia, squeezing Chilena tightly; "but sometimes we DO have to take responsibility for our actions. And I did try to suppress Al's male personality--which only bottled up his emotions and built more pressure. You are right about his needing a mental vent, which for him is his daydreaming--PLUS the martial arts. If he hadn't had those, I might have caused him really to explode."

" Yeah, I might join him in the class is that all right?," she asked, looking down.

OOC: OK lets say I didn't put down as she was a black blet :]

"Of course you can take Escrima lessons with your brother," said Eric to Chilena, now in English. "Al will be delighted to share that part of his life with you. You do know that he loves you tremendously and he would willingly die for you, don't you?"

The incident with Sky the boa, plus a sense of obligation to hang around for the first snake show of the day, had postponed Alipang's effort to look for Kim. Postponing it further, now, was the sight of Chilena approaching him. There was just enough of an uneasy look on her face to induce Alipang to hurry toward her, so they met a little apart from the audience before the stage. Making a single unbroken movement of meeting Chilena and sliding his arms around her, he said softly, "What's up, sweets?"

Alipang tilted Chilena's face up toward him, kissed her, then returned her head to his chest. This news was worth even a delay in looking for Kim; it meant something that would perpetuate his bond with Chilena regardless of progress in his social life outside the family. It felt like having his cake and eating it too.

"Oh, sweets, honey, Chil-Chil, and sweets again! That's awesome! Did I tell you yet today that I love you? Well, I love you twenty-four-seven, all four seasons, coming and going, now and forever, I love you!"

" No, you didn't tell me you love me," she told him, didn't want him to let go of her.

He led her behind some trees, keeping at least one arm around her at all times. Coming to a halt at a bench, he sat on it, parked Chilena on his lap, resettled his arms around her waist, and put forehead to forehead and nose to nose, as on so many occasions.

"Okay, let's be thorough, sweets. I love you for having made the effort to be patient with me when I was fresh-caught from the jungle. I love you for helping me with English. I love you for keeping up your Tagalog even after we all came back to the States, so you and I would have that to share. I love you for loving our parents the way you do, because they deserve it. I love you for being helpful to others generally. I love you for fighting your natural impulses of annoyance at the babies. I love you for coming to me with problems. I love you for listening to MY problems. I love you for being tender-hearted and sweet. I love you for writing that song for me. I love you for playing and joking with me. I love you for EXISTING! Are you starting to pick up a hint that I love you?"--and he kissed her another time.

After Sky ate the treat, the little boy wanted to hold him, and Erin let other kids come up and gently hold Sky and ask as many questions they wanted.

"Better than Mike, even?"--but Alipang swiftly kissed her again as soon as he said this, to make sure she knew he was only kidding. And he held her there on his lap, securely cradled in his powerful arms, for as long as she felt like being held and comforted.

"Well, not too little; we were both eleven the first time you ever laid eyes on me. But I remember the tree house." He tightened his embrace around her, and rocked her a little as he went on. "I remember that the very first time I ever felt a really COLD wind was when we were in the tree house on an October day as the weather was changing. As you'll recall, there aren't any truly cold days in the Philippines. So you held me close to warm us both up, just like I'm holding you now, except I wasn't on your lap."

Alipang whispered into her hair, "Did you remember our fun times there? Like pretending we were Filipino resistance fighters hiding out from the Japanese during the war?"

"Let's move over there; I'm not needed for several hours yet." Having determined earlier that he could carry Chilena without excessive stress, Alipang now lifted her in his arms as he stood up from the bench. He chose a spot where no one would think they were exactly hiding, but where they were out of traffic's way. Sitting with his back to a tree, he leaned her against his chest once more, where she could fall asleep in his arms with her head on his shoulder if she was as sleepy as her yawn sounded.
