Saruman entered the brig again. "My dear pirates," he said sweetly, "how are you feeling this fine afternoon?" He was referring, of course, to the fact that Fish and Machia had eaten his undoubtedly tainted food. They knew it, and he knew it.
Machia's head was swimming, but he tried to clear his thoughts, "Never better, wizard," he tried to say sarcastically, but his words just came out passive and slurred.
The wizard smiled. "And you, dear Fish?" Fish, like Machia, felt as if she was in a dream. She wanted to say something, but no words seemed to make sense in her head. "We're both fine," Machia said suddenly, this time with much more force in his voice.
Saruman seemed taken aback, but he quickly composed himself and smiled again. He muttered some words under his breath, and Fish and Machia felt as if a fog was lifted. "Now then," the wizard said, "you will tell me everything you know about Narnia. Starting with how to get there."
"We don't know how to get there!" Fish cried earnestly. A second later, she put her hand over her mouth. She hadn't thought of what to say, and ye the words came out. She glanced at Machia, but he was transfixed by Saruman.
"But surely you must know. How did you come to Narnia the first time?"
"The Be--" Machia started. He seemed to be battling himself. "No! I won't tell you!" He held his head in his hands, gripping his hair tightly.
"Machia, how did you come to Narnia in the first place?!" The wizard commanded Machia to tell him.
"The Bermuda Triangle." Machia said sullenly. "We were just sailing. We had just pillaged a town, and we were heading to the next. We decided to short-cut through the Bermuda Triangle..." his voice trailed off.
Fish continued. "Everthing when dark. Like... like a fog, though heavier than a fog has ever been." She shuddered and paused for a moment. "I don't know if we all went unconscious or stayed awake. I don't know if seconds or hours passed. But the fog cleared, and when we tried to take our bearings, nothing seemed to work. We recognized nothing. But the land was beautiful, and a warm, calming breeze took away our fears. No. It wasn't the breeze that stilled me. It was the voice in my ear. The deep voice that seemed to come from nowhere, be all around, and yet... and yet be only loud enough that I could hear it. It was at that moment that I forgot everything about Earth. I could recollect vague thoughts, but I didn't even have a desire to think about my life before this strange land. And now, now earth is the strange land... Now all I can think of is...get...." Fish tried to continue, but her voice choked. She sank back down and became very reserved.
Machia looked at her. "is getting back to Narnia." He finished definitively.
Before the wizard could respond, the ship lurched violently to one side. "Those fools!" Saruman cursed under his breath. "They've gone and hit the reef!" He quickly made his way out of the brig.
Fish and Machia sat in silence, thoroughly exhausted. The ship lurched again, and caught off guard, they were thrown against the cell bars. Surprisingly, they came loose. "Machia, put those back in place!" Fish shouted excitedly. "If the Wizard doesn't realize that they are loose, as soon as we have a chance, we can escape!" However, there wasn't much cause to fix the bars. The ship hit something again, and this time, the wall of the brig was broken. However, no light flooded in. It took the pirates a moment to realize this. "Fish...?" Machia said slowly, "did Saruman say it was in the afternoon?" Fish nodded in response. A fog began to roll into the brig.
"Let's go!" Fish said. Her head had suddenly cleared, and he made to jump out the large hole.
"Fish, are you crazy?!" Machia shouted as he stopped her. "You've no idea where land is. We'll drown!"
"Aye, because calm seas always make ships lurch from side to side." Fish said sarcastically. "Obviously, something is out there. And anything is better than on this ship. Who knows, maybe someone on the island will know where our mates are."
"I still don't like it..." Machia said.
Fish sighed and looked out the hole. Through the fog she could see a tiny beacon, and it appeared to be halfway up a mountain. "Look, Machia." She pointed it out to him. "We aren't far away from land. Come on, it's now or never."
Without waiting for a response, she made to teleport to the land. It hadn't occured to her that she had ever lost that power. But seconds later, she appeared on the shore of an island.
Machia started incredulously at the place where Fish had just stood. "We can teleport?" He thought to himself. "But that can only mean..." He tried to teleport to land, too. Again, it worked.
Once on shore, the fog seemed to clear. Fish and Machia had teleported about a mile away from eachother, but using DV's, the were easily reunited.
"Machia, I recognize this!" Fish said excitedly. "This is the west coast of Galma!"
"Which means," he said, returning her excitement, "That Cair Paravel is due west! We did it... We made it back to Narnia!!!"
