I think the new Bones did do a good job with the speech patterns. Physically speaking, though, I don't think his appearance is quite as much of a match.

And speaking of speech patterns! The kid they got to play Chekov was freakin' BLOND! How did THAT happen!?

Well, seeing as how this is a free country, I'm entitled to disagree. :) But I thought that Zoe Saldana looked a lot like Nichelle Nichols.

Lets see, my favorite characters in this new movie were in order:

Chekov first
Scotty, second
Spock, third
Bones, fourth
Uhura,
Kirk

Yeah, Chekov was the best for me. You can all disagree. I don't... mind.

LOL, my only beef with him is that he was way too young, and I couldn't understand him. If this film signals the start of the 5 year mission, then he's been cast too young. And Scotty...I guess the reason I didn't really like him is that he was the comic relief, not a younger version of Montgomery Scott, played by the awesome James Doohan. As someone else said earlier, he did sound a lot like Pippin and not like Scotty; he didn't have enough of a Scottish accent, I thought. *shrugs* But he had some good lines though.

Again, as others have said in this thread, things did not happen the same way in this movie as they did in the original timeline FOR A REASON.

Its entirely likely that in our reality they came together as a crew later on in life.

With the moon of Praxis blowing up around Chronos and the planet Romulus going whoosh in a supernova that a Red Cross / Red Crescent / Red Bathlith convoy would be there to serve Ractagino and doughnuts, hmm? :D

I noticed that the new movie has yet another variation on how people look when beamed with the transporter.

I suggest that if Microsoft has anything to do with it, we can find interesting plot devices for future movies.

"Error 404, person not found. Click here to diagnose connection problem"

or

"Your person is being transported. Clicking HERE to view our sponsor's advertisement will not close this session"

And there's another thought. Let's say that with the biofilter and weapon disabling that SPONSORSHIP subroutines would subtly change the person beaming free to prefer Cadillac over Buick or Coke rather than Pepsi. Inappropriate ad targeting may result in the first man to buy Midol for himself. You never know.

I just saw Star Trek! It was simply spectacular! The best Star Trek film since the originals. I loved every character especially Bones and Kirk. :)

I need to write my review on my blog to fully express my feelings. :)

I think that kid was good playing Chekov. I think it's very difficult being an adult actor to play a young kid acting more adult LOL! And having to speak with a convincing thick accent too.

subsequently Anton Yelchin who played Chekov is also going to be playing Kyle Resse in Terminator Salvation. Star Trek and Terminator, go Anton! :D

Ps. I loved him as Chekov. :)

Scotty and Chekov were\are the only two I dislike greatly. Sulu, I can't stand him in TOS but I liked him in this movie (mainly because I don't like George Takei and some of the things he's involved with; it's disgusting), especially when Kirk asked him "what kind of combat training?"

"Fencing." lol.

I saw the movie today and thought it was excellent.

The best thing is how they handled the characters. Aside from being good actors, they all had chemistry between each other and felt believable...unlike 85 % of the Star Wars characters who were as wooden as can be.

Lol. I completely agree with you there (except, not ALL the characters in Wars were wooden; the original actors weren't terrible; I guess because it didn't seem so forced). I like how Bones and Kirk become really good friends almost from the beginning (even though Bones threatened to throw up on Kirk!)

Star Trek is masterpiece because it is a character driven story, each of the characters have chemistry and thus each second of film is spectacular. :)
