The Lord of the Rings- J.R.R. Tolkien

I am quite dismayed that spells, alchemy, and necromancing will be featured in LOTR The War in the North. Such practices of witchcraft were reserved for the villans of Arda such as Morgoth, Sauron, and Lord of the Nazgul. Now through this video game they encourage the Free Peoples (players) to delve into these depraved practices. *Sigh* :(

You can't expect game writers to appreciate the subtlety of Tolkien's statement about the nature of supernatural powers. (Of course, this wasn't helped by Jackson's portrayal of Galadriel as "the elf witch" in the films, rather than the queen she actually was.)

Aye, developers take many liberties (too many in my opinion). I thought the Tolkien Society would have kept this from happening. Never does Tolkien depict witchcraft or its practice in a glorified light. It tis always the nefarious ones who delve into the dark magic. Yet now you too can do the same.

Oh yes Karl Urban! He did a wonderful job. It is funny how characters can change after a while. I mean fav characters. I always loved Sam in the books and then I loved Pippin in the movies but after years and watching the movies many times I love Sam the most. Nothing can beat his loyalty

Yes. When I was younger my favorite was Gandalf as he was the most powerful and he was one of the few main carhacters in LOTR to also appear in the Hobbit. But as I've gotten older Samwise Gamgee with his loyalty, friendship, and humility has become my favorite in both the books and the films. I love the fact that he does what he does for no other reason then love for his friend. He is everything that a good friend should aspire to be. I know I do.

I certainly give Samwise his due; but I have a special fondness for Faramir, AS TOLKIEN WROTE HIM. The original Faramir NEVER needed to be "snapped out of " a nearly-successful takeover of his mind by the Ring; he had his head so together that the Ring got NOWHERE trying to lure him into its power. For anyone who has read novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs, it will make sense when I say that Faramir is like some of the really smart, insightful heroes who appear in Burroughs' science-fiction books.

I totally agree, CF - the Faramir of the book is one of the most generous, noble-hearted of men in the story, second only to Aragorn. (Which was one reason why Jackson's perversion of his character was one of the major travesties of the movies.)

Reading the books and watching the movie. In the book the reputation of Galadriel, particularly as held by Gimili (at the outset) and expressed by people like Wormtongue was as the elf-witch: a mysterious and powerful enchantress. But meeting her and seeing her nature showed differently. Unfortunately, Jackson's portrayal of her in the movie perpetuated, rather than negated, that impression.

I will say that the Faramir of the ROTK film was pretty close to the book version, and he was less perverted from the book character in the EE of The Two Towers (though not enough).

And I fully agree about Galadriel. To much like a witch.

I concur, Faramir of the books is the most genial, heroic, and wise man next to Aragorn. I adore his words (paraphrased) "Even If I found it (The One Ring) lying upon the side of road, I would not pick it up." :)

You completely wrote down how I felt! That is EXACTLY the same reason why I loved Samwise the most!!

Oh and Faramir in the books is so noble. Especially when he knows the Ring is in his reach and he prefered to give it all up. His noble and pure character was so touching in the books. I am glad Eowyn ended up with him. I love books faramir
