The Series is threatened.

I could have swallowed everything else; but smearing Peter's character, and their denying Aslan's omniscience as God ("WE will never know..."), were both unacceptable, and COMPLETELY unnecessary for them to have done.

I agree with you in these two points. I am terribly sad that they chose to do this. If the movie doesn't do as well it's only their fault. I do hope it does much better in the long run and that the future movie makers take the opportunity to rectify those mistakes.

I prefer to see Susan fighting over Lucy though, because if you go by the gifts given to the Pevensies (minus Edmund), Lucy is intended to be more of a healer and provide insight and moral support (that's sort of based on the books and movies). Susan is The Gentle, yes, but she received a bow and arrow, so she should probably be participating in SOME fighting. I understand what Lewis wrote and thought, but that's what I see.

Ouch! Thats not good. I also heard from a news site (this probably isnt true) thats the cast wanted more money for playing in the movie. All of this together as you said could end the Narnia series of movies

I havnt seen it yet but am going to and will be sure to bring a few of my friends along ;)

I belive that. Being new actors and all (Except anna who had had roles in other movies), they probably were offered some money, probably more than they had ever imagined, but which was not nearly enough for a seasoned and experienced star, and they eagerly accepted it. Now that these movies are becoming franchaises, I am sure their agents and lawyers believe they should get more.

Man, the movie keeps dropping significantly at the box office:

1. Sex and the City & The City (Warner Bros) - $66.5M
2. Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull (Paramount) - $42M
3. The Strangers (Rogue Releasing) - $20M
4. Iron Man (Paramount) - $13.8M
5. Prince Caspian (Disney) - $12.6M

5th Place!

I think this is just about right according to boxofficemojo. But I highly doubt it came in at number 3. And so far it's only made 115 million which is a shame considering the fact that LWW had knocked down King Kong from the top spot around it's 3rd or 4th week of release.

I really hope Walden and Disney reconsider the release date for VODT.

If anybody is still worried about the Chronicles film series, read the new article posted by Specter by Sci-Fi's Pulse: Douglas Gresham says that they are trying to make arrangements for Silver Chair.

Doesn't sound like a pulled plug to me. Besides, please remember what Mark Johnson said to fans at Comic-Con: "If you keep on coming to see them [the films], then we'll keep on making them."

But he made the comments at the NYC premier. Before Caspian came out in the US. Hopefully when they say "If you keep on coming to see them, then we'll keep on making them," they're also referring to international fans and not just here in North America.

Look at what happened with the Golden Compass, it only made $70 million here in the US and about $300+million worldwide yet they still pulled the plug on the series.

I have managed to help keep the stake driven through the heart of "Golden Compass" by explaining its true intent to poorly-informed fellow Christians who WERE being deceived that "It's like Narnia."

Prince Caspian suffers from poor editing and an uninspired and unappealing performance from the actor playing the title character.
I beg your pardon but I must heartily disagree... Ben did an amazing job as Caspian. He was great... epic... magnificent! The man deserves some appreciation!
And besides, isn't it a bit early to be crying defeat? Good grief! Don't curse the darkness, light a candle! Get your self, your family, your friends, they're friends all out to see this movie! Let's make it successful so that Disney doesn't pull the series and you can give them a chance to take VODT and make it into a really good movie! After all, let's face it, it's a better book!

As to The Golden Compass, I think most everybody has forgotten about this insignificant and mediocre movie.

The point is well taken that it came out in a strong season. Also, it doesn't have the name recognition that Lion does. There are lots of people who have read Lion who've never read any of the rest, and some of those don't even know there are other books. Naturally, the first one released, with all the name recognition, would do inordinately well.

The producers have to recognize this and factor it into their plans. That's been clear from the start, when the title logo was a big, stylized "Chronicles of Narnia" with "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" as the subtitle! Simple thinking would have made the classic name with high recognition be the big blaring logo, but they put some forethought into it and made sure to make the name of the entire series the prominent visual.

I've already said too much about my hopes regarding the film's fidelity to the written stories, so I won't repeat it here. I think as a run of produced films we'll see films through at least Dawn Treader. How well those films bring the stories to the screen is my worry.

Please don't lose faith PftW! And remember that Andrew Adamson was resposible for a lot of the changes in PC and isn't going to be coming back for the other films! Also remember that VODT is a lot more screen friendly than PC, it's a massive book! And there is so much that can be done with it on the screen.

Courage, dear hearts!!! Keep the faith, be strong!

For Narnia, and for Aslan!

I'm not all too worried. If they at least get to The Silver Chair, I'll be happy. And of course if it's done well enough.

That was really inspiring I must say. :D

I really hope the new director doesn't screw things up with the new movie. I have yet to hear his views on the whole series and If he too feels resentment towards the spiritual elements found in the story I'm afraid I'm going to have problems with the next film.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought golden compass failed to break even, or at least failed to turn a profit, hence why no more of those. (and i say all the better.)

Well the budget for GC was 180 million before marketing, 70 mil domestic. Narnia has hit 120 mil domestic without a robust global release yet.

Personally I hope they do not pull the plug on the rest of the franchise. I enjoyed both movies and am looking forward to more.

*Sigh*

It doesn't look good for PC anymore. Third week out and we're down to #5 on the week (http://www.imdb.com/chart). $150 million will be hard to make domestically at this point. We are behind a movie about women who dress up in expensive clothes, a 20-year-later Indiana Jones sequel, a really bad horror-thriller, and a movie that came out 2 weeks before us.
