Great, somebody brought up invisible text. Now I have to check every post. Thanks a lot, guys.

How dare you demand a graven image!

On second thought, here's one:

John Knox = founder of Scottish Presbyterianism = holidays are Catholic, and the pope is the Antichrist. Knox forbade Christmas celebrations, and eventually Scotland followed suit. In 1640, the Parliament of Scotland outlawed "Yule vacation and all observation thereof in time coming." Christmas wasn't named a national holiday in Scotland until 1958.

So, the Grinch.

I like how your mind works. I also like the thought of a Scottish Grinch - well of course he is, being grumpy and all, how could I not see it? I also completely love the name "Grinch Knox". Hehe.

It does make sense....

Also, December 6 has been called "Punch a Heretic Day" (not by me...). Apparently St. Nicholas punched Arius in the face at a church council. He narrowly avoided being defrocked.

You've got to love Christmas. So many warm and fuzzy things about it. Like King Herod.

I don't actually know that much about saints, when you consider how many saints there are. But as for the ones I do know about...I've just picked things up. From Catholics, Catholic websites, and Protestants who are into church history. It's pretty random.

Anyway, it's pretty hard to forget that St. Nicholas punched Arius at a church council.... So much for a roly poly Santa Claus with rosy red cheeks.

I didn't know Mr. Darcy punched people; I thought he spent his time hiding from them and/or glaring at them. This is interesting. Tell me more.

Mrs Gardiner says that she recollects having heard him spoken of as a very proud, ill-natured boy.

Just to set the record straight: it wasn't Mr Darcy who was afflicted with rosy-red cheeks; it was Elizabeth, and the rosy-red cheeks weren't the result from punching but from walking. Since Elizabeth never punched anyone, we may conclude that walking is an effective method of letting off steam.
