Softly chuckling at Meridia's unenthusiastic response, Vissarion turned to Ivan, not concealing his mood because there was no ill-will in it. "Well, I guess that lady won't be too heartbroken that I'm already spoken for." To the other powerful women present, the redbearded warrior said in a more businesslike tone, "Not meaning to tell you your business, for I've no doubt you possess knowledge I never even heard of, but if we're leaving here, I urge everyone to bring along provisions from the dining rooms. Although we did see people outside, we don't know how close their permanent settlements are, nor do we know how friendly they are. And since there are clothing racks in some of the rooms, I also suggest bringing some warm things. It's quite cool out there, and by the time we get outside it may be full dark."

Ivan glared at Meridia.
"I know how much you've missed me. I'll bet you wept for hours. I'm quite the heart-throb." He ran his fingers through his long, grey hair.
"And before you toast me with your lazer-eyes, I'd like to point out that I was being sarcastic and I have no romantic interest in you at all. I find you repulsive." He smiled nastily and then turned to Lisbeth.
"You're ok, right? Didn't run into any monsters or anything?"

"It's a beam of light that fries people to a crisp. The elves have this one kind of gun that shoots 'em. Nasty weapon." Ivan nodded, feeling smart.
"Anyway, I'm bored now. Let's hurry up and get outside."

Ivan glared at Meridia.

"It's ok I'm married," Meridia said wryly, "you couldn't measure to Wess."
"Enough you two," Verra scolded, "No there haven't been any monsters."

"It's really funny how they say it that way, "monsters", as if they're 3rd dimention demons or something. If there is anything here it is probably some race of humanoid."

"I believe," said Vissarion, "that Ivan's reference to monsters had in mind the really disgusting tentacled creatures which have been trying to kill me ever since, by God's aid, I thwarted their schemes against my own world."

"Oh then something like an antropoden or octapod. That's not too bad. Little intelligence, but easy to communicate with. Usually territorial though."

"She can speak to anything or anyone," Verra explained to Vissarion, "Call it a knack for languages."

"More than a knack it's freakishly convienent."

VISSY: "You may be confusing these demons with other beings known to you. The creatures with whom I'm at war--and it's _they_ who come looking for _me,_ I can't shift into their ethereal space--are not merely misunderstood. They are intelligent, and already perfectly capable of communicating with humans, as witness the one who held Ivan hostage. They have no grievance to be amended--unless it's a grievance that I didn't go along with them appointing themselves as gods and demanding human sacrifices. They are simply _evil;_ they have no survival need to do harm, they _enjoy_ doing harm."

"I see," Jade said feeling a little disheartened because she felt like she could communicate and reason with anyone.

"Then lets get moving," Verra ordered, "I dont want to waste my energy on fighting..." she smiled at the word, "monsters."

Vissarion, aside to Ivan: "Friend, I feel as if I have an investment in you. Please try and make my efforts for you count for something; try NOT to antagonize powerful people senselessly."

"Don't call me friend. The last person who called me 'friend' ended up dead. I'll be a companion to you for a while, though." He glared at the super-powerful girls.
"It took me twenty years to learn to fight with my teeth and nails, you know? 'freakishly convienent', indeed. I'd like to see any of them fight in the Elves colliseum. Like to see them try and comminicate with a starving lion," he whispered to Vissy, and the Super-human girls didn't hear him.

OOC: Expecting others to respect Span-Inq's fact-statement that Ivan is not overheard--

Vissarion replied to Ivan, "But my life is in God's hands, not hanging on the mere word-choice of whether I call you friend or companion. So I will _think_ of you as someone who can use a friend; this may be, as much as anything else, my reason for being brought here. As for who could fight well in an arena, I'm not concerned with that. We are HERE. Each of us must use what abilities we have. You did your part helping me out with that particularly tough demon at the window, and it was enough. Note also that those women are not at present doing anything to antagonize you, so why antagonize them?"

Jade kept to the back, liking the quiet, so that she could hear her thoughts. She was wondering who exactly was leading. Not in the literal sense, Meridia was the obvious choice to be the one to lead right now, but who was the ring leader of this group. They weren't at home. Veragoe was indeed the most powerful person, along with Keven, but did that matter here? Surely her years as queen of both a planet and a galexy put the others to shame, but did she rise to that role now. As she watched her, giving orders to the others, she realised it was true, even though Jade knew she would deny it.

Had Vissarion known he was in the presence of the queen of a galaxy--even if the real meaning of a "galaxy" had been explained to his mind which did not lack intelligence but had not had access to knowledge more advanced than Earth's Roman Empire--he would not have cared. His ego had been cauterized long, long ago, when barbarians had captured and humiliated him, leaving him a purged vessel for higher purposes than the barbarians themselves could have guessed. He had consistently triumphed in war since then, precisely BECAUSE he was not in a competition of pride with anyone. Each person had whatever abilities were granted to him or her. Vissarion did not expect ever to be the ruler of any place larger than his own house; but he was a servant to the CREATOR OF all galaxies or anything else.

"I checked ahead there seems to be several passage ways. I checked a few of them, and those are dead ends, if I check the others it will take longer, should I just do it?"

"Yeah might as well, we can stay here until you return."

"Very well," Meridia said as she phased through the stone wall.

"We wait until she returns," Veragoe said to the others.

"Excuse me," said Vissarion, "but I've kept quiet on the assumption that you knew what you were doing better than I did. But Ivan and I did tell you as soon as we rejoined you that we had a clear route out of here, one which didn't require any dematerializing. If you still say it's better to go this way, I'll assume you know your business; but if we had gone back the way Ivan and I came to you to start with, we all would be almost outdoors by now."

"True," Veragoe said, "But you had ran into those monsters or whatever. Meridia is trying to find a route out of here that doesn't envolve getting tangled with those things. What ever she reports back will be the deciding factor if we go her way or yours. She may end up getting ambushed by them, or she may find a way to steer clear of them. Since we have quite a few to keep up with, plus children, I'm not going to risk anything. Im going to choose the safest route for them. If you feel, however, that you can get out that way I dont mind if you and Ivan leave. I wouldn't hold against you or anything."

"How about this?" said Vissarion. "Ivan and I can be back outside again--" (he pointed off to his left) "--roughly THAT direction, in less than twenty minutes, and wait for you to emerge. There are two readymade openings on that side already, though the direct approach to one of them has a pit in the way. Once out, we'll stand by where we can see a large extent of the perimeter. Air drafts should give you a sign if you're near either opening; if really near, you'll find some of my trail marks. Your disappearing lady should be able to find our windows easily enough; both of them are pretty close to outside ground level. While we're waiting for you, I'll see if I can spot more bricked-over windows to open up for the ones who CAN'T phase through them. How does that sound to you?"
