Buena Vista Games’ flagship offering for 2005 is Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. It’s a title that gets its source material from a Hollywood adaptation of popular fiction, much like Electronic Arts’ Lord of the Rings games did and still do.
At Leipzig’s German Games Conference, Narnia took up most of Buena Vista’s floor space and even had a presence at Sony’s booth. The level we played allowed us to switch between two different characters and roll barrels into otherwise invulnerable beasts. The whole time we had to fend off smaller enemies. We managed to roll our barrels well enough, but it wasn’t until we started using some of the collaborative attacks that we really began to hammer our way through the enemy ranks.
Chronicles of Narnia, you see, utilizes a cooperative buddy system so that gamers can control one of several different characters and combine attacks with other characters on-screen. It also features an at will multiplayer system that lets players jump in and out of the game at their discretion. Unfortunately, no Leipzig Convention attendees could build up the nerve to cut their way through our profanity force field and give the game a go with us. But at least the computer will control friendly characters on its own whenever the need arises.
