Announcing the Future Home of C.S. Lewis College!

Just got this in my inbox from J. Stanley Mattson, the founder and president of the C.S. Lewis Foundation:

At long last! It’s difficult to believe, after so extended a journey, but the truth is, we are about to take a major step forward towards the long-awaited goal of establishing C.S. Lewis College.

It pleases me greatly to inform you that a news conference was held today in Northfield, Massachusetts announcing the purchase of the campus for the use of C.S. Lewis College by Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc.

Located in the greater Amherst area of northern Massachusetts, just east of the Connecticut River, the campus is the beautiful and historic former site of Dwight L. Moody’s Northfield Seminary for Young Women (later, the Northfield Mount Hermon School). NMH recently consolidated their operations onto their Mount Hermon campus, located five miles away.

For details on this rather extraordinary development, including the press release, announcement videos, and photos of the campus, visit http://www.cslewiscollege.org.

We invite you to rejoice with us on this joyous occasion, taking place most appropriately in this Advent season.

“Further up and further in!”,

  1. I just read about this on the “C S Lewis Society of California” Facebook page! You know what’s strange? I’ve been to both Northfield/Moody campuses. They’re really pretty! 🙂

  2. I WANT TO GO THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

And the link didn’t work for me for some reason.

  3. CaspianGirl,

They may have been revising the website when you tried to use the link. It should work fine now. There is also a link there to the new cslewiscollege.org website, which has lots more infromation.

I found a little information online when I was investigating this yesterday. The asking price for the property was $20 million. Of course, I don’t know how much was actually paid, but it looks like Hobby Lobby has deep pockets! Here is a link to one of the Real Estate sties that still has it listed with a nice picture of the property: http://www.otisahearn.com/listings/listing/01360-Northfield-Franklin-mlspin-70727928.html

  4. CaspianGirl: the link should work now. I tried it. It didn’t work for me yesterday either.

You want more info [historical, etc] on the school site? Go to http://www.cslewiscollege.org. Both campuses were originally boys’ and girls’ schools founded by D. L. Moody. And the future home of C. S. Lewis College has Moody’s birthplace and burial site.

  5. does anyone know exactly what courses the college would be offering? this’s an amazing, exciting announcement, well done to all those involved and blessings for the future! 😀

  6. If you watch the video, it gives you basic information. There are also some helpful items in the Press Documents section of the C S Lewis College website. It appears all students will take the same course of study in Great Books. See page two of the Frequently Asked Questions document (pdf format) for an explanation of what this is.

  7. Oh, my gosh…I want with all my heart to go to Queen’s University in Belfast, but I’m afraid that’s probably way too far out of my price range. This sounds like a good alternative. 😀 I cannot wait to learn more!
