Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader selected for Royal Premiere

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader has been selected for this year’s Royal Film Performance.

The third big screen adaptation of C.S. Lewis’s fantasy saga will get its world premiere in the presence of members of the Royal Family and the movie’s cast and crew in late November.

Dawn Treader is the second movie in the Narnia franchise to be screened for royalty following The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 2005. It will also mark the first time a Royal Performance has been shown in 3D.

The annual premieres are the principal fundraising events for The Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund, the trade charity for UK film and TV industries. Previous selections include The Lovely Bones, A Bunch of Amateurs and Casino Royale.

CTBF chief executive Brian Robertson said of 2010’s Narnia premiere: “We are thrilled to be able to host the Royal and World Premiere of this highly anticipated film which looks set to enchant audiences across the World.

“This will be a landmark event attended by members of the Royal Family, an acclaimed British cast and this will be the first ever Royal Film Performance in digital 3D. We are grateful to 20th Century Fox and to the Royal Family for their continued support of this important fundraising event.”

A press release is probably going to follow with more details of the event. In 2005, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe premiere was held at the Royal Albert Hall on December 7th. It looks as though this will be a very similar premiere. You could also get tickets for the royal premiere. I’m not sure if that will be the case for Dawn Treader, but it is possible. Stay tuned and we’ll let you know!

  1. This is so awesome! I think that this is such an honor to be chosen to screen for the royal family.

  2. So…has anyone else noticed that there are 2 characters in the picture that do not belong? Or maybe I’m getting ahead of myself and only 1 doesn’t belong… 😛

    • For the sake of the emotional state of the audience, and so that we don’t see two identical scenes back to back, he has to be there in the film. Think about this. Let’s say that in the Lord of the Rings we had a scene in which Merry and Pippin said goodbye to Frodo. Then in the very next scene we have Samwise saying goodbye to Frodo. Emotionally and mentally the audience has already been through the farewells once and is prepared to move on from that. In the written word, the goodbyes could be mere pages apart but we accept it. On screen, however, it’s just wasted time for the viewer.

      • Queen Helen: Prince Caspian is there. In the book if I am correct he is with Lilliandel at this part of time in the book

        • Oh yeah. He’s behind Edmund (kind of). I guess it would make sense. The only thing (this is actually a random comment; get used to seeing these) is that he (Caspian) might have a rather lonely trip back to the ship. Unless Aslan accompanies him. This is a story change that I don’t mind them making. For film reasons, I guess it would be the right thing to do. I can’t believe that I didn’t think that saying good-bye was a reason for Caspian to go with them when I watched the trailer. One of those “Duh!” moments.
