I am amazed by how many reviews are being posted these days! And there’ll only be more as the U.S. launch draws close (can you believe it’s in just 3 days?).
The Los Angeles Times wrote an article about the Voyage of the Dawn Treader! Their article talks primarily about the difference in tone between Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and about how the success/failure of the Voyage would determine the future of the franchise. You can read the whole article HERE.
Victoria Advocate reviewed the movie and gave it 3 stars. Excerpts from their article: “”Voyage of the Dawn Treader” is either a spirited revival of the film franchise based on the C.S. Lewis children’s Narnia novels, or an entertaining and emotionally satisfying coda to “The Chronicles of Narnia.” They say that although the film suffers from poor acting (a result of the tight budget), Apted has managed to give the film “an emotional resonance and lightness of touch that the films Disney made (Fox has taken over distribution of these Walden Media projects) lacked.” You can read the whole review HERE.
SpiceZee news wrote that “The third franchise of the Narnia story makes audiences glued to their seats as it has dumfounding special effects and captivating make-belief fairytale folklore.” You can read their whole review HERE.
IndianEntertainment reviewed the movie, and they really liked it! Excerpts: “Beautifully rendered with careful depth, this fairy tale creates an authentic world of itself.” … “But at the end of the day it is a faithful and delightful experience of having visited Narnia again, hugged Aslan again, won the fight for good again and found yourself again. Too bad one has to grow up.” Read the whole article HERE.
The Cauldron gave the movie a B+ for “great special effects and mediocre acting.” Another excerpt: “As proven by the children and adults surrounding me in the audience, families of all ages will be enchanted by Narnia once more.” You can read the review in its entirety HERE.
Australia’s Bendigo Advertiser rated the movie 3.5 stars, saying “This visually stunning, fantasy-adventure is a great film for the summer holidays – for no other reason than to lose yourself in a fun-filled adventure.” You can read the whole review HERE.
The Christian Post wrote an article about the movie. The author writes, “…if you miss this voyage on the big screen, you’ll definitely regret it. Breathtaking visuals, fascinating plots, and an overwhelming sense of wonderment are just a few of the delights that await as you join [the cast].” This article is specifically about the Christian view on Eustace’s un-dragoning; how everyone can see a bit of themselves in Eustace. You can read the whole article HERE.
CathNews wrote an article about the Dawn Treader, and here’s their verdict: “The movie successfully conveys optimism and hope, and as temptations are resisted, growth occurs and true character emerges. Laying aside its scary moments, and there are some, the movie is excellent fantasy-adventure fare for Christmas viewing.” You can read the whole article HERE.
Now here’s some special news…@Ibzandwich on Twitter has informed me that in Mexico, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is #1 in the Box Office, beating out Tangled and Harry Potter 7 with an earning of $30.3 million pesos ! What’s amazing about that is that it has only been released in 3D so far; it has not yet been released in 2D there. You can read the whole article HERE. Note, the article is in Spanish, so you may have to use Google Translate.
Thanks to @BenBarnesOnline on Twitter for several of these articles!
Couple points –
The LA Times article is not a review. Those four stars are readers’ reviews of the article, not the film.
Also, 30 million pesos is about $2.5 million US dollars.
Thanks for the note about the LA Times! I’ve fixed it.
Using Google, that’s what I’d calculated too, but I didn’t put it in just in case I was basing it off a mis-translation. But if you’re sure that’s what it is, I can add it to the post.
correction, look closely, it’s 4 and a HALF stars! even better!
It turns out those stars are just the readers’ rating of the article itself, not of the movie. It was only at 4 stars when I wrote this post; but it’s great that it’s moving up, since that means a lot of people read it!
