The Silver Chair: A Guide to Auditions for Jill Pole

The Silver ChairHow can I audition to be Jill Pole in The Silver Chair? At the time of this writing, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair has not been given the green-light. However, that hasn’t stopped the e-mails from coming in asking for the role of Jill Pole in the movie.  In fact, the absolute number one request we have gotten since The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was just announced for production has been the role of Jill Pole in The Silver Chair. It seems a lot of girls want to be her, more than any other role in the series. We have been inundated with requests to audition and felt the need to address this question.

I have a few tips for those looking for an audition for the role, as well as some information about where we are at right now with the film. We are not in charge of casting, though, so please refrain from asking us for an audition. We cannot grant you one, nor can we send any contact information on to any casting directors. Requests in the comments also cannot be granted or guaranteed.

1. Pre-Production

Pre-production encompasses a lot, including script writing, storyboarding and character design and casting. It even begins, at times, prior to a film getting funding from a studio (part of the green-light process). The Hobbit is one of those movies that was in pre-production for the last few years and only recently was given the go-ahead.

Sometimes a studio will hire a writer onto a movie that hasn’t yet been given the green light, which has always been the first step with the Narnia movies. Currently, we haven’t heard about a screenwriter been signed to take the book and turn it into a script. All three films have had the same screenwriters, save for Dawn Treader which added another writer to the mix. This is one of the first things that needs to happen before casting can begin.

2. The Green-Light

The production team will then take the material they’ve developed to the studio to present it before the studio heads. This can either be just a script, or a set including a script, storyboards and pre-vis demos of different sequences. They may also try to give an asking price for how much they think it would take to produce the film based on the script that was written. This is based on knowledge of how much various things tend to cost, among other things.

This could be expedited by the box office success that The Voyage of the Dawn Treader sees. If the film does really well, then Fox will see value in continuing the series.

3. Pre-Production goes full speed ahead

If the film is granted funding by the studio, the pre-production team is built up with more production staff and sets are built and everything necessary to get the film put together is acquired.

This leads us to the next phase, the one that you were looking for.

4. Casting

Once casting begins, they are going to look for the best actor to play each role. This is someone that fits the character that they are looking for. Usually they have the look of the character in mind when they start the casting process. They look at casting agencies mostly, but sometimes drama clubs and even open casting calls.

The best thing that you can do to increase your chances is to start acting in local plays. Many areas have drama clubs or local theater guilds that you can try out for roles with. Getting an agent is another good way to increase your chances of getting the role. There are a lot of phony agents in Hollywood, so you need to be very careful to go with a well known and well regarded agency.

When it comes to these films, they tend to look in the UK first, as they want to cast someone that has a natural British accent. There probably won’t be any open auditions for the role, as it is a leading role and they’ll need someone that can carry a film. They’ll look for someone charismatic that gets along well with Will Poulter.

5. Summing it all up

If you want to be Jill Pole, help make sure that the series continues by helping The Voyage of the Dawn Treader do well in theaters.  The filmmakers haven’t yet decided what they’ll do next if given the chance to do another Narnia, and word is they’re trying to decide between The Silver Chair and The Magician’s Nephew. (In multiple polls on many websites, approximately 75% of fans want to see The Silver Chair next.)

It is best if you are actually British, and part of an acting agency or group.

They aren’t currently casting the movie, as there is no movie to cast at the moment.  If or when the movie is officially announced by the studio, we will announce any casting calls and do whatever we can to give you as much information as possible to help you out.

    • Welcome marta! 🙂
      As far as we know, walden media has planned to make magicians nephew next, though it’s not greenlit. Polly would be a choice for that! But try acting out both and whichever one u have more good quality in, go 4 it! No 1 knows where or when they r, though they will most likely be held in the UK. U don’t have 2 worry! 🙂

  3. I know u guys know this but the magicians nephew is DEFINETELY going to he the next film. That does not mean give up and audition for Polly!!!! Just try acting out BOTH roles and see which u have better quality in. U haven’t tried Polly yet, though I’m so sure that I have better quality in Jill, but well

  6. i would relly like to audition but the problem is i live in canada 🙁 and im a HUGE NARNIA FAN !!!! also i can speak with an acsent(if i even spelt that right) very well, ive read the books
    so is there any way i could get an audition without traveling to the UK or any part of the world that speaks british ??

    • U could make a audition video and post it on you tube! 🙂
      A lot of people here did that, so, yah that’s the only way I guess. I wondering Nina gold will look there 4 a good Jill pole!?

    • If there are no open auditions, they will probably look through actors with lots of experience, or look through talent agencies. Good luck though 😀

    • Well do you have an agent?
      Go on google or some search engine and type in: ‘travel agencies’
      I’m sure you’ll find something then. But be sure to have ur parents permission if you want to actually write to them or visit. 🙂

  10. I just got home from London. It’s sad 2 leave—–but it is good to be home. The good news is now I got a taste of how to make a British accent. I think I may have even gotten it naturally a bit! There were so many ‘clones’ of skandar Keynes, which was odd! And I saw this play thingie advertisement where nina gold was the casting director!!!!! 🙂

    • Do u want a specific role? Or do u want to be an extra? There are different auditions for each, I think, but there is no plan yet

    • USA, but I’m half Japanese and a quarter Italian
      I’m best at English but I study Japanese at Japanese school

      • dont worry im in thee same boat as you my family cant afford and agent either… Do you take acting lessons ?? if you dont start

    • you might want to apply to a talent agency, and just a heads up if you are trying to get an agent, and they want you topay up front, then they are a fraud because a talent agent is supposed to get 10% of your income, from any job that they get you. Just saying.. 🙂

    • It is alot of girls dream really, but what you need to do is get into acting, and read the article above, it can very helpful. Manners and your behavour is another thing to keep in mind…(remember girls not all of us can be Jill!)

      Also read my other comments, they might be somewhat helpful to you!………..I am getting tired of typing info on this page.

      Then talk to parent; there is alot of sacerfice when going into a film.
      After that get some acting experince and get an agent that will support you. /be careful when getting an agent, there are alot of fakes out there…. And good luck!

    I got to a prestegious theater and academics school and the director of the last play i was in was the director of 127 hours. I don’t really know how to get an agent and can’t exacley ask my friends because they all have one. Grrr… So,should I just perform in more school plays or should I start big and go audition hopping? I just have worked so hard on skils and accent (I live in CA) so I just want to give this a try! How? Like, where in the world should i start at!

    • First ask parents!
      second look online! but becareful they are everywhere, and some are fakes!

    • Most likely they will have an audition for Australia then the winner(s) will go to the uk and audition

      • yah i agree that probally what they will do with america and other running countries….. thats if they hold auditions out of the UK they will probally go round to the theatre schools and school for the childrens parts maybe?

    • well in australia theres, Brent Street talent agensy for kids dk about america maybe theres some where like that in the states my drama teacher told me about brent street and thats how kids movies get the roles for the kids and i just looked it up and it had contact numbers courses and boot camps its a really big and trusted agensy

I go to a drama school its really professional and elite but its in ireland thtas where i live! i really really want this part so badly, im a good actress and can do a british accent well im not too far from britain do you think they would look in any schools over here? i dont have an agent because the school acts as your agent! main problem is, I look very very very like Georgie Henley

      • Hmmm…Jill pole has dirty blonde hair or brown hair…but LOOK doesn’t matter!! They r looking 4 the one who represents Jill the best, whether she looks like her or not. 🙂 hope this helps

      • Really, hair and face don’t matter, because they could make you look like ANYTHING., literally. what matters is talent, voice, and looks are only a small part of it. 🙂

    Sorry I haven’t been here in a while but things have been pretty busy—-
    I just had a school trip for s week and it wad great! I learned archery which is a lead to Jill 😀 and I think they ride a canoe in silver chair right? Cuz I learned canoeing. I’m sorry 2 barge in all the sudden so for those who don’t know me, I’m narniafan16 and it’s always been my dream to b in a Narnia movie. I’ve loved Narnia ever since i wad a little kid 😀 I’m nearly 12 now. And I REAAAAALLLLY hope that SC gets greenlit soon…b4 I get 2 old! But I think I might b too young…who knows!
