Cinefex covers The Voyage of the Dawn Treader – “Sea Quest”

Cinefex is a film magazine that goes behind the scenes of the effects in a movie.  The magazine tends to be a little pricey but for the amount of content that you get, I have found it to be well worth it.  The articles are well written and go in-depth.  The latest issue covers The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, as well as Tron: Legacy, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and Hereafter.

By only covering a limited number of films each issue, it allows them to spend a lot more time on every aspect of the making of a movie.  I haven’t read the article yet, but have posted screengrabs of the pages from the digital version so you can get an idea of the length of the article.  It looks like it’s about 28 pages long, with 17 of those containing a lot of text.

From Cinefex.com:

Director Michael Apted took the helm of the third film based on the C.S. Lewis’ fantasy novels, as the narrative picks up with the Pevensie children joining King Caspian and a band of mythological creatures on a sea voyage to save Narnia. Makeup effects artists at KNB EFX Group and special effects supervisor Brian Cox collaborated with visual effects supervisor Angus Bickerton and teams at The Moving Picture Company, Framestore, Cinesite, The Mill and The Senate to create an array of all-new creatures, fantasy environments and nautical settings.

Big thanks to Roger for pointing this article out to us!

  1. The print edition is $12.50, but worth it. The photos are excellent and the effects houses that worked on the film have purchased one or two page ads showing off their wares so to speak. I have heard from FX pros that everyone in the FX business reads Cinefex magazine. Issue 114 covered Prince Caspian. Issue 104 covered LWW. I have not seen them yet so YMMV. Paul, thanks for pointing this out. Enjoy.

  2. What are the page numbers that the article consists of?! I can request photocopied pages from the library, but only if I know what pages I want.
