C.S. Lewis & The Inklings

C. S. Lewis biographer Dr. Alan Jacobs will recieve the 2006 John Pollock Award for Christian Biography on Tuesday Oct. 10 at Samford University. The award, chosen and presented by Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School, recognizes Jacob’s book The Narnian: The Life and Imagination of C.S. Lewis as the most distinguished Christian biography book in the past year.

C.S. Lewis Societies are nothing new, but they are gaining in popularity. There is no doubt that the recent films based on properties of Tolkien and Lewis have helped to inspire more people to join these groups, or start new groups at colleges and universities across the country and around the world.

Here’s an editorial that columnist Joseph Ravitts sent to me a while back. I decided that now was as good a time as any to post it! Here, he delves into C.S. Last Friday, IGN had the opportunity to interview producer/screenwriter David Goyer, where he spoke at length about the novel “Here, There Be Dragons.” The rights for the novel have been snapped up by Warner Brothers, pushing the book up the sales charts very quickly. For example, Amazon pre-sales ranked the book around 5,000. On September 29th, with word spreading of the movie news, “Dragons” was ranking at 644. As of this writing, it is sitting at 1,493.

Since The Lord of the Rings’ success, there have been many fantasy films released to try to cash in on the success. I think it’s a breath of fresh air, as far as movies are concerned. Afterall, movies are mostly fantasy anyway, depending on how you look at them. Recently, Peter Jackson has optioned a series called Temeraire.

While Aslan flat-out IS Jesus Christ, many other characters in the Narnian stories can be called _analogies_ to something in the Bible.
However far his inventiveness ranged, Mr. Lewis did not forget about Scripture.
