You got it, Solya! I mean, it isn't as if Amanda will _actually_ experience the physical sensation of my arms around her, no matter what I may _write_ about embracing her tenderly. The point is the relationship of persons. And while it may be necessary sometimes to speak sternly in other settings, _this_ place is consecrated to mutual gentleness, compassion and edification. This place--I say, recalling a phrase whose intent in the 1960's was NOT so pure and innocent as what I mean to convey now--is a GLOVE-IN!!
A further thought. I have spent an incalculable amount of time interacting with children under the age of eight, and I have about a 99.9999999999999999 percent success rate at winning their confidence. This is in large part because I _don't_ force myself upon them physically; I let _them_ decide when, if ever, they feel like hugging me, and they usually decide before long that they do feel like it.
