Caspian/ Ramandu's daughter...

I admit since I first heard the Narnia books one thign that always puzzled me was the romance between Caspian and Ramandu's daughter .The fact is he only just meets her and telsl her that same day he wants to marry her. A few days later he decides he's going to sail away with Reepicheep untill Aslan, Edmund, Lucy adn Reepicheep tell him otherwise.

I'm wodnering how they can translate Caspian's romance with her to the silver screen with out making it seem like he's just infatuated with her?

Interesting point mabye it will be like susan and caspian because they were kind of strangers to idk it will be hard to make that work i agree

Or just in the same way of all other fairy tales and fantasy stories...and pretty much most romance films...it just happens and we don't really think too much about it, especially if it's expected. :) I do believe Caspian does make a reference to Sleeping Beauty in the scene where they meet...princess and enchantment, that kind of thing. Stuff romances are made of, right Disney? ;)

"My mum just said he must get over susan pretty quickly and it must be like love at first sight kinda thing i dono i never been in love??"

He doesn't have to get over Susan quickly. VotDT takes place 3 years later for Caspian. He has three years to deal with a good-looking queen who has had to leave and has told him she will never come back. If he's not over Susan by that time, something is wrong with him.

Exactly. Actually I'd hope that he was concerning himself with his kingly duties in those three years and not moping over Susan. Ramandu's daughter dying it's one thing as his wife not only died but he lost his son.

Like it was said in other thread, they need not even mention (or remember) the Susan fling. Just forget the whole thing happened and just make a movie that is based on the book.

REMEMBER!!!! 'Twas Susan that kissed Caspian, not the other way around. He was attracted to her (can you blame him?) but he was NOT in love with her! Therefore, it needn't be mentioned in the film at all.

I hope they speed up the production a little. Waiting two years is killing me.
Just remember that having to wait two years is far better than not getting any more movies at all!

I totally agree! I didn't like the "romance," but I don't know why everyone is making such a big deal out of it, because there was no real romance involved, just a little harmless flirtation that most people today would expect from teenagers that age.

And, as Mr Bob pointed out, VotDT takes place 3 years later for Caspian, so it would indeed be silly to think he would still be thinking of Susan at all.

I am sure they will be able to work out the "love at first sight" thing between Caspian and Ramandu's daughter just fine (though it still bothers me that she doesn't have a name! LOL). As Elentari said, it is hardly uncharted territory for movies!

Thanky you Fae!

You're welcome. :D
Hey, that's pretty sweet that you're Elizabeth Bennett... I took a quiz like that and was Fanny Price, which I thought completely inaccurate!
I also like that the picture is from the BBC version of P&P... it's one of my favorite movies of all time. Long live the 5-hour P&P, LOL.

LOL Lizzie is pretty accurate for me! Who do you think that you are?

Oh me too! It's the best version that they've made! (I've seen three.)

We used to have a neat Janeites thread here, but I can't find it now. We might have to make another one!

So that I don't spam...... I can't wait to see what they make Ramandu's daughter like!

Oh, yeah, I'd better get back on topic, too, LOL, but we should definitely start a Jane-ites thread if there isn't one!
I think I'm a mix between Jane Bennett and Eleanor from Sense and Sensibility (for some reason I can't remember her last name right now), because I'm the oldest of three sisters, so obviously I see a lot of parallels. :) The quiz I took may not have even had those options, though... I know Jane in particular is not considered an actual heroine, she's more of a side character.
My husband, though, says he thinks I'm like Elizabeth, so maybe I'm not really like any one of them, but a strange combination???
Okay, back on topic: What do you picture R.'s daughter looking like? Do you have any actors in mind that you think would portray her well?

P.S. This was my hundredth post. Yay!!!

That's neat! Perhaps you have great qualities from all of them! :)
It's Eleanor Dashwood.

Congratulations!
I think of her looking something like Chloe from Celtic Woman. I don't know if she can act, but she could do the singing part!

I can't think of any actress that truely fits my mental image... what about you?

:D I hope so, that would be cool. And thanks for reminding me of her name, I can't believe I forgot, haha.

I have to admit I had no idea what Chloe looked like, so I googled her and found this awesome picture... this does look like Ramandu's daughter!

I'm not sure I have a definite mental image. I'm pretty flexible. :) I keep getting the picture of Claire Danes as a star in "Stardust" stuck in my head, though. Have you seen that film?

I LOOOOOOOVEEEEE STARDUST!!!!! I actually used footage of Claire Daines from that in my VDT fantrailer ;) But an unknown is probably going to get the part. Although I STILL prefer Carey Mulligan. She was Kitty Bennet in the 2005 P&P, but here's a more R's Daughter-ish pic if you haven't seen the last ones I posted awhile ago:

She's also been in My Boy Jack, Bleak House, Dr. Who, and The Amazing Mrs. Pritchard. This pic is from Bleak House, I think. Anyhoo, she was absolutely astounding as Elsie Kipling in MBJ. :)

LOL! I love Stardust, too. It's one of my favorite movies, actually... I was so pleasantly surprised to find a fantasy film that was actually original!
Carey Mulligan is an interesting choice... I didn't even have to look at the pic. to know who you mean (though I will look at it anyway). :) I know her from Bleak House, which I watched just recently. (Obviously I'm a big BBC miniseries fan, LOL.)

Hehe Glad you think so.

Okay, I confess! I went on youtube and watched the five or so minutes of it that Ben Barnes played in. I wanted to see what he was like in a role besides Caspian! (I wasn't too impress either )
I haven't seen the rest of it.

And she also played Isabella in the new Northanger Abbey that aired on Masterpiece in the spring. Shes a good actress because you REALLY don't like Isabella!
She might be good in the role... I really think that they need an unknown.

I'd like Claire Danes (BLONDE) to be the part just like in Stardust... Long blonde shiny hair and beautiful. Ramandu's sort of reminded me of a star, and my mind also struck Stardust, I love that book/movie.

Carey Mulligan also seems like a good choice, although I'd like her with blonder hair in the movie..
