It was a close one between Aragorn and Gandalf, for me, although I have learned to appreciate the Hobbits as I've been reading the books.

Well, goodness - if anyone deserves some votes of confidence, it would be Faramir. Who wouldn't like him? :)

Uh, his father. I don't like that man. I've never really thought about it much but if I did I would probably find he's almost my least favorite in not my very least favorite. He makes me mad.

Well Zella that's the point. In reality Denethor wasn't that bad at all. He was a devoted Steward of Gondor. He did whatever he could and if you read about him you will understand him more. In the movies they turned him into a kinda jerk. The movies are great but they harmed a couple of characters and Denethor was one of them. He was getting desperate because the battle was upon them and of course the Palantir didn't do him that much good either. All his hopes were focused on Boromir. It looks like Denethor hated Faramir but he didn't. Boromir was physically stronger than Faramir and Denethor knew this very well.

LOL, I've never seen the second or third movies! I've just read the books. I know he's not all bad and that he didn't really hate Faramir, but I still don't like him. (He also didn't like Aragorn and since that's two of my favorite characters he wasn't nice to he kind of blew it for me.)

By the way, this is off topic but I love your username.

I agree with you here. I don't like Denethor that much either ;) I love Faramir the most out of the family.
It's okay to go off topic. We do this all the time :D Yeah both Pippin and Gil-Galad have a special place in my heart

He makes me mad, too, but his character is different (slightly) in the book. He's much stronger, much smarter, and even a bit more civil than he is in the movie. He's actually said to have seeme more wizardly than Gandalf.

And yes, Faramir is the cheese. They didn't do him justice in the movies. In fact, they ROBBED him of his lines and gave them to Gandalf! He's a much stronger, morally upright, good man than he's even portrayed to be there. So, for that reason I've enjoyed reading the books and getting a better look at everybody.

Almost without fail, all the things I DIDN'T like in the story in the movies DIDN'T HAPPEN (or didn't happen "that way") in the books! So, that's redeemed the story some for me.

300% agreed!!! The things I didn't like in the books weren't in the movie. I remember I like way they created the Death in the movies more

If there is any character I dislike It's gotta be Grima.. Grima Wormtounge. I cannot stand him in movies! He is indeed a worm.. a snake that speaks poision. His very appearance sickens me. :D

Regarding the books.. I actually didn't dislike him. Like Gollum I saw that he had a part to play.. for good or ill. And in the end.. he indeed did something right, however regardless he payed the price which made me feel sorry for him. :)

Lol, yeah... But you gotta admit, he's a pretty pitiful character. Half the time I felt sorry for him; you can tell he didn't really like being on the dark side.

How dare they rob Faramir of his lines! *Is shocked beyond belief* Sigh, well, I still want to see the movies. I think part of the reason Denethor is said to be more wizardly than Gandalf (by Pippin, right?) is that Gandalf doesn't seem very wizardly.:D He typically seems more like a (somewhat tired) old man with the world on his shoulders.

I dislike Grima too. But indeed I fel sorry for him as well. Once he was a Rohan soldier. There isn't much said about Grima but I assume his love for the Maiden of Rohan must have led him to his doom. In the end of the books Frodo told Grima he had done nothing wrong against him. I think Saruman had mislead Grima by making him believe he could help Grima to get Eowyn. But yes I agree....I am not very fond of him :D

Yes they harmed Faramir's character in the movies. The EE makes a little bit up for all the loss but still Faramir could have been done better

Well I pitied Grima in the books.. in movies however not so much. Only in the Extended Editions of the TTT and ROTK did I have a shroud of pity for him. :)
