Which, of these, is your favorite?

Boromir was redeemed because he saw how wrong he was for trying to steal the Ring. I see that as he keeps getting struck by arrows. Most men, as Pippin says, would have been felled with one arrow. Boromir kept fighting, knowing more than likely he was fighting in vain to save the Hobbits but he did it anyway...

Boromir isn't my favorite, but I wouldn't call him an idiot. I think that's a bit extreme.

I just dislike him. Its my opinion.

I know it's your opinion, but "idiot" isn't a very nice word, IMO. I don't like Gollum either, but I don't call him an idiot...just saying.

And why people like Gollum is beyond me; he's creepy. :p

The MOVIES made Boromir say things and do things while the books didn't. I don't hate Boromir. To be honest the part where he is fighting to save the hobbits is touching. Maybe it is the music or the scene itself but I am really touched by that scene. Don't forget Boromoir was in despair and his father pressured him. Boromir trully believed the Ring would save his beloved Gondor from Mordor. And that is why he couldn't think properly I guess. In the end he saw what he did and he regretted it. He felt remorse for what he did and he even admitted he tried to take the ring from Frodo. I wouldn't call him an idiot either. But I can understand you think like that Sammy. But really Boromor was not like that.

When I read the books I loved Sam the most and when I watched the movies my fav was Pippin. But many years later I can seperate the fangirlism from the true facts. I love Samwise Gamgee the most. Do I need to explain? He is everything any living being should be. Loyal, simple and determined.

Another fav of mine is Eomer. Yep the nephew of Theoden. He has shown his true colors throughout the story and I think he deserves so much more attention. He was loyal and he thought with a passion.

My top fav however will be Gil-Galad. I know less is told of him in LOTR and more in the Silmarillion but this great High Elven King knew exactly what sauron was up to and Sauron failed to mislead him. Just the whole part around Gil-Galad makes him more fascinating. My fav Elf and also my most fav Tolkien character.

why am I not surprised by the last paragraph??? ;) haha. Not to mention, Sam is the true hero of LotR. Sorry all you Frodo fans. :p

In all fairness, the Ring would drive anybody "looney", so everybody who carried the Ring (Bilbo, Frodo, Gollum, etc..) all were a bit "looney." He wasn't looney; just driven blind with desire for the Ring, as anybody else was. Well, except for the Elves. The Elves seemed pretty immune to the effects.

All except Galadriel, she kinda went into a tizzy about the Ring. :p

I voted for Sam for reasons others have already well expressed. May we all be blessed to have a Sam in our lives at some time or another to support and inspire us to do better than our best. He is amazing!

One thing I like about the LOTR is how it really grows on you, and gets you feeling so strongly for the panoply of characters Tolkien created -- from the amazing, to the creepy, to those with weaknesses like you and me. Tolkien was a genius.
(but please let's not get too stuck in our ranting against the ones you personally abhor, okay? ;) Thanks.)

My favorite characters are the hobbits.:D I love them- they're so sweet and helpful and willing. I just love them.:D
my favorite of the hobbits would probably be Sam, followed by Frodo, Merry and Pippin.

Besides them I like Aragorn and Gandalf and Eowyn alot as well.:)

^Thank you.

I definitely want to have a Sam in my life. ;)

The great thing about Sam is that he is so very much a VOLUNTEER. Characters like Aragorn and Gandalf are sort of automatically "in" the situation; it is obvious to them what a responsibility is theirs, and they could never face themselves if they blew it off. But Sam, at least after getting as far as Rivendell, is under NO compulsion to risk his neck any further; he heroically chooses to go on, out of a pure-hearted loyalty to Frodo.

"But I can carry YOU!" is for me the greatest stand-up-and-cheer moment in the movie of R.O.T.K.

I voted for other because my favourite character is ... Gollum! I feel sorry for him and he is such an interesting character. And he destroys the Ring!

Other favourite characters are Faramir, Frodo, Éowyn and Sam (he's so funny). I also like Ioreth and the Sackville-Bagginses, they make me laugh. (So many characters to choose from!)
