Homeschoolers in Highschool, Part Three

Chilena was in Dan's house long enough for Alipang to run a double feature of wishful daydreaming.

Now he was a jungle fighter in his native land in the Second World War, as his mother's father had been in reality. The Imperial Japanese Army, hard pressed to hold against the heroic resistance band led by Tiger Alipang, called in reinforcements: the Smoky Lake East varsity and junior varsity football teams, joined by a platoon of stuck-up cheerleaders. But Alipang and his men barraged them with pingpong-ball-shooting guns, which caused their feet to fly out from under them.....

Chilane came back to the car when she saw her brother looking into space " Earth to Al are you there?," she asked, waving her hand over his face.

"I was just back in Luzon," he told his sister. "Kim hadn't even had time to catch a flight out there and join the action before you came outside."

She laughed " Oh, Al you went back to your la la land didn't you?," she asked, pulling out something under his seat " Do you want to come in with me?," she asked.

As soon as Alipang caught his first sight of Dan, he said, "Now go easy on me, buddy, I'm still delicate, and probably will be all through September."

Ignoring Chilena's last remark rather than confront her about whether she _really_ thought he expected to be harmed by Dan, Alipang said to him, "You missed out on a great volunteer luncheon; we even had a snake handler there, but not in the fringe-group-church sense. A girl named Erin, who's going to display a boa constrictor at the picnic. So how are you doing at getting better? Don't feel bad about Chilena getting well first; girls tend to have better disease resistance. I've been looking out for your interests, fighting off all the rock stars and actors who wanted to date my sister."

Now Alipang faced Chilena. "We didn't talk about serious things at the movie. Did you or didn't you tell Dan about how your zygote-sources the Jakekens turned up and expected to hop right back into your life _without_ really answering our questions?"

Including Dan in the conversation by asking his opinion of the Jakekens (to which Dan was noncommittal, not adding much to what he and Chilena had discussed earlier), Alipang finally said, "We'll know more, maybe, after Dad checks on Kathleen's claim to be employed at the nursing home."

OOC: Hannah, it still is up to YOU to decide if you want Chilena's birth parents to be completely on the up-and-up, or just a little out of true, or seriously flawed, or totally rotten.

Alipang allowed Dan to see him smiling. "Well, did you feed your boyfriend all the soup, or is there more back at home? Of course, even if the soup's gone, I wouldn't be surprised if Mom's got something we can eat."

Saying goodbye to Dan and following Chilena out to the car, Alipang halted her before she got in and enfolded her in his arms. "In case I didn't say it, thank you for the movie. And I wasn't saying I _wouldn't_ eat something you made!" He kissed her, then got into his seat. He would have asked to drive on his learner's permit as practice, but his rib was hurting too much. His plan for the rest of the evening, besides eating and possibly telling the babies bedtime stories, was to study, and study, and study. To get as far ahead as possible. Maybe Kim would even ask him for help sometime.
