Hopes for VDT....for people anticipating the release on DECEMBER 10 2010

I agree with the December Release. I think it is the best time for a fantasy movie to go into the theaters.

December 10 of next year is so important to me. Not only is Dawn Treader coming out, but also December 10 is the official date of my last Undergraduate class day. After that, it will be finals and then Graduation with a Bachelors Degree in Wildlife Biology.

Wow, that's awesome Lava! You will be able to celebrate the end of school with the premiere of the movie, totally cool. Congratulations. :)

The good news that VODT will stay true to the real Identity of Aslan, and will present the subject of grace (SPOILER) in the undragoning of Eustace, without watering it down, gives me high hopes for the movie once again.

Everyone knows I was very disappointed by the changes we had seen so far and I had already decided not to watch the movie (maybe until it came out on DVD), but the news we got are encouraging and I really hope they got that right.

One of the things I liked is that the producers agreed that they really dropped the ball in PC (something we already knew) and this time the movie is a lot more faithful to the book.

I feel better now.

Hallelujah! If BK is optimistic, then I will be, too!
:)

Now I just need to hear from ITW that she's on board ...

I hope they somehow work the line,"there was a boy named Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and I dare say he deserved it."

Perhaps give a brief line to Edmund at the beginning, something to the effect of, " a blighter like that deserves a name like Eustace Clarence Scrubb."

Um, I was watching the Tron Legacy trailer on youtube, and I just realized. It comes out on December 17th. ONLY ONE WEEK AFTER VDT. Is anyone else worried that that might possibly hurt VDT's box office potential? I didn't think much of it before, but the Tron movie is a sequel to the 1982 original and I'm quite sure it has a solid fanbase (take Tron Guy, for example). Plus, the movie is going to be released not just in "Disney Digital 3D," but it will also be in IMAX 3D. Do you know how expensive IMAX tickets are? Even if only a handful of people see it in IMAX, that's still going to rack up a heck of a lot of money.

I read a rumor about a year ago that the VDT team was thinking of possibly filming/releasing VDT in 3D. Personally, I think if they want to get just an extra step ahead of where PC left off , they should head for that route. Seeing as everything is being released in 3D now, and it is considerably more expensive to see films in 3D, it might do the franchise a lot of good, especially since the break with Disney.

Now I am NOT saying that ALL of VDT's success is going to ride on something like that. But we have to think realistically here. If VDT doesn't do extremely well at the box office, we are probably not going to see a film of The Silver Chair. My feeling is that the success of the entire film series is going to ride on the success of VDT. Financially, they might want to pull every string they've got just in case. I don't doubt that the plot has been kept sound and that the film as a whole is already stunning (from the reports I've read, everything looks very positive). But just look at the success of that overly political hogwash called Avatar. The plot was terrible, but people went to see it SEVERAL TIMES b/c of the effects and the 3D. Imagine what a movie with an incredible plot could do if it also was in 3D...I know this all sounds superficial, but it might spell a huge difference in VDT's financial success.

Plus, they will most likely top the box office the week it comes out, but they have to make sure that it's going to stay there (even if it falls #2 behind Tron) for a while. We don't want another dark horse like Iron Man coming up and ruining it :-/

I read an article about too many people getting headaches watching 3D anything. I know I do so I don't watch anything in 3D. I don't think 3D will catch on.

If VODT comes out on 3D, I won't watch it cause 3D gives me migraines!!

Movies released in 3D aren't released in 3D exclusively. Usually all theaters will carry the film without 3D, and some will have it in both 3D and regular 2D. So if it does release in 3D, you won't have to worry about it. You can just choose to watch the regular version and pay less money :) 3D is just an option.

All I'm saying is, they might want to consider having that option, b/c people who do like 3D will pay the extra money to go see the film (I know I would :p). With Tron Legacy looming over them with all its crazy effects, I'm beginning to think VDT might need the extra cushion. They have to give Fox a good reason to keep the franchise and support the production of the remaining 4 films...which basically means reaching a $200 million minimumearning (at least in the U.S.).

I thought it was "he almost deserved it." It is a funny line!

I know it was something to that effect. I was going off of memory...As long as they manage to work some variant of that line ( one of the best "none-spiritual" lines in the sereis) I wouldn't mind it. It almost helps show his character more and how others see him.

Okay, now I'm REALLY scared. I just found out that the movie version of The Green Hornet comes out 2 weeks after VDT. That means it has Tron AND that to deal with...and if GH isn't a flop, then it might be the "Iron Man dark horse" of the year. We don't want the same thing happening with VDT that happened with PC GAAH :(

*prays that VDT is also released in 3D so it can make more money and so we can actually see a film of SC*

Alambil, VotDT has to make a tidy profit for TSC to be made. It is working on Tabout a $150 million budget while PC had a $225 million budget. VotDT could make the same amount as PC and could make enough for a continuation of the series.

I am not going to worry that the other two will cause serious problems for VotDT's overall take. I think Tron and Green Hornet have to worry about each other more than anything else. They have the closest competing audience bases.

MrBob

Calm down. YEs Tron legacy has a 20+ year fan basis from it's first film, but look at say Indy IV, or Superman Returns. Each film had twenty years prior from the last film to the newest one. Superman Returns did PC numbers... huge budget/ poor BO returns. Indy IV did fine out of the gate but had diminishing returns afterwards.

AS to Green Hornet yes it could do Iron Man numbers... but in general Superhero films have traditionally done the best as summer tent polls. Look at Daredevil, Catwoman, Elektra, and Ghost Rider, they all did not have a summer release date, and it hurt the films. Iron Man was a rare time when a none= "Superman/Batman/X-Men/Spider-Man hero" did well/ Now if it were Green LANTERN maybe we'd ahve a problem, but it's not.

Also we already have an Iron Man dark horse for that year... it's Iron Man 2!

Still, I'm a bit worried. Look at what happened to Avatar. People went and saw that movie several times for the sole reason that it had cool effects in 3D :/

True, but look at Alice in Wonderland... it's doing well, but not Avatar numbers. And Avatar had been filmed in 3-D. VoDt would ahve to be converetd and many time's it tends to be rather jarring.

PS, I like your title for Avatar in your siggy. It's so true!

Tron wasn't even a good movie back then so don't worry. The new Green Hornet? It doesn't have Bruce Lee so it sucks already!!!!:D

Exactly! He was the best part of the old series. And Seth Rogen as a superhero? It ranks up there with when Jack Black was in talks to play Green LANTERN.

Any rate, MR. Bob, you have an excellent point. VoDT unlike the other two moveis ahs the family audience fan base. The other two not so much. Parents will more likely bring their kids to VODT. And lets not forget this time around from the sounds of things they will go back to promoting VODT with churches so you'll have Church Youth Group Christmas parties shelling out money.

I agree with most things said here- I doubt those two movies will hurt VoDT - though upon first seeing the commercial for Tron I was worried. First thing out of my dads mouth was, "I have to see that!"

I punched him playfully when I saw the release date :p.

Haha I just think it's funny that last summer when they were filming I said the film makers would have to be CRAZY to put VoDT in 3D, what, with those stupid little red and blue glasses? Now the main movies I've been to in the past three months have been that newish 3d... Go figure. But I still doubt VoDT will have any troubles NOT being 3d. To be honest it added almost nothing to Alice in Wonderland but a bit of depth lol. And the release date is amazingly near-perfect, Christmas! :D I can't wait!
