Magician's Nephew Speculation

Okay, to me, the movies were a relief from the boring books. I couldn't even read VDT it was so boring! I thought Prince Caspian was good because instead of having Trumpkin tell his 3-chapter-long tale, they just start it from when the queen was giving birth (which was very, very odd if you were just seeing the movie without reading the books.) But really, I don't care what movie they make next. I just want to see more Narnia! And why should we care if they mess up the movies? At least we're seeing them on the big screen, right? Narnia came to life. We should all be happy and stop all the fuss.

I'm sorry that you did not like the books. But you know what? Some of us are passionate about the books, and they truly are alive in our imaginations.

I think it will be interesting to see this in a film adaption as it has never been done before. Im looking forward to the creation bit. I just think it will be extremely interesting seeing this one in film

I heartily second this, the narnia books were my favorite series as a kid and they still are. Sure there were things in each of the films I was disappointed not to see but having the books brought to life in such a vivid way is thrill enough for me. Am I a twee bit disappointed not to get Silver Chair next...i must admit that I am but I will be glad to see Magicians Nephew since the creation scene was always the hardest for me to visualize and I would love to see it.

My two Lions worth...

Okay, first of all, you're entitled to your opinion that the movies were better than the books. I don't deny that.

HOWEVER, I don't appreciate the way you talk down to book fans on this forum, me included. You are not stopping to consider how WE BOOK FANS feel about the films. You only see us "poor members" who disagree with you. Here's a piece of advice that I've been given a lot: don't tell us to "stop the fuss." If you don't like what we have to say, IGNORE it. You couldn't read VDT because you thought it was boring. fine. But I don't like being told that I should stop making a fuss because these movies don't live up to my own personal expectations and opinions. Frankly, if you don't like people who disagree with YOUR opinions, then don't be posting because you only are causing problems with those who don't see things YOUR way. And honestly? It's really starting to rub me the wrong way. And I say starting to because I've been fairly nice to you up until now. You love the movies, fine. Nobody cares that you do, and nobody will criticize you for it. But I'm asking, nay, I'm REQUESTING that you stop being so condescending and looking down your nose at the book fans.

Now...back to topic. If they keep the creation bit pretty much the same, what creatures do you look forward to seeing created?

whoa Aravis! I don't think she was talking down to you! Goodness, retract the claws and have some tea! I'm sure she just meant your bitterness toward the series. *passes cup of tea* I love the books as well, and I'd take a better version of VDT and PC any day. However I'm not going to let myself get overly upset over something I can't control. Now that we have escaped the cold world of Disney, perhaps the waters will be smoother sailing. Don't let it bother you so, I hate to see you get so upset! I mean your a wonderful person, and it bothers me when you get so. As for the animals I'm curious about the elephant popping out of the ground, maybe it will look like a small hill first...

trust me, Aravis is not the only one getting seriously annoyed with HQK.

I'd like to see all the animals come out, particularly the cats, because I love cats.:D What I really want to see though is the Lamppost growing. Ever since LWW I have loved lampposts because for me it has become a symbol of Narnia. So I would love to see what they do with the Lamppost tree.:D

*gives you a hug since I can't give reputation*

The Lamppost growing will be key. The one detail I liked about LWW is how they made the Lamppost look like it had roots. So people will be looking for that in TMN if they caught it in LWW.

and SoA, she was, intentionally or not (not to mention, it wasn't just me it was aimed at; it's apparently anyone who loves the books and wants to keep the movies faithful to the material!). When I'm being pitied for my opinion, it's condescending. She can't seem to understand that there are people here with vastly different opinions from her, and she doesn't like it. When people tell me not to "fuss", it'd be like me telling you guys to stop liking VDT. I can't do it because you're entitled to your opinion. If I was rude, I don't apologize because people should stop walking on eggshells around here at times and be brutal. There are times I've been talked to that way, and if anything, it made me stop and think before I posted again. If it means you hurt someone's feelings, but they stop what they're doing, it accomplishes something. That sounds cold and callous, but truthfully? I've had many a word said to me, and I've said many a word to people trying to tell them they weren't entitled to their opinion of disliking PC. I don't try to begrudge anyone an opinion. But when I'm pitied for MY opinion? That's going a little beyond the bounds of disagreement.

Now, I'm not discussing this any more, and if HQK has anything more to say about how we're "unfortunately" against the majority opinion, I won't be as nice as I was in my last post. And I was much nicer than I could have been, trust me.

And I think the cats coming out of the ground will be funny. Cats are interesting creatures to watch, and I'd love to see them come out of holes in the ground.

I agree with AK! I too felt that Katy was talking down to us that like the book. It's not an issue for Katy to love the movies, but for her to pity us for not feeling the same way...

Okay, I'd better shut up about that.

I can't wait to watch Aslan create the world! I'm also really looking forward to the flying scenes with Fledge! :D

*tilts head, and goes to re-read HQK's post*
OHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
sorry Aravis

Fledge might be the only reason I see the movie. I wonder if he'll be red, since his name was Strawberry. ;)

I hope so! :) Fledge is one of my favorite characters, partly because I was so obsessed with horses when I first read the books.

I hope they keep the "toffee-tree" in the movie! :D

I'm still obsessed with horses. :p

The toffee tree would be an interesting design...I've always kind of wondered what it would look like on screen. Too bad it wasn't a chocolate tree. :p

Yeah I'm really excited for the toffee tree as well, but one of the most wonderful parts of the book to me was the Wood Between the Worlds! (you can probably tell from my user name) It is such a calm place which I honestly wish I could experience. So untouched by humans until Digory and Polly were fortunate enough to arrive there. I really hope that they capture the "warm" silence, the ALMOST sound of the trees growing, the light coming through the trees just so, the rich soil where Digory cut the strip of grass away, and all of the sleepy endlessness of it.

I agree wholeheartedly. It is described so vividly that I think of it as a real place. :) In some ways, TMN might be my favorite of the series... I can never make up my mind! :p

Any thoughts on how much of Jadis should be shown in the trailers? Personally, I don't think much is necessary. It's interesting. You see, of all the trailers for the previous three movies, my two favorite were, first, the teaser trailer for "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" (Trailer #1, the full-length version) and second, the teaser trailer for "Prince Caspian" (Trailer #1). In each of these, the White Witch received less than three seconds of footage.

Perhaps a little more time would be okay, especially from the scenes of her in London. But I want the trailer to focus on Digory and Polly, their circumstances in England, and their magical journey.

I think the trailer should treat the movie extremely seriously, with the first trailer being one to start a buzz.
It starts out with a shot of the Lamppost outside the house, before switching to Digory In the Backyard with Polly, Digory:"What Happens If we could go someplace? Someplace Where there is no more sadness?"
We see a shot of them returning to the house and cut to Uncle Andrew with the Rings, Uncle Andrew says something about the Rings and we watch as Polly puts it on.
Here the score takes over, something Fast and Adventureous with the sound of Danger underneath. We have several quick cuts of the Wood Between the Worlds, the puddle traveling, Victorian London, the Narnian Trees Growing, the lamppost, A flash of Aslan, and then the score reaches it's build up we get a shot of Polly and Digory in Charn after Digory has rung the bell, we see Jadis stand up towering over them, "hello children" . then we cut to the Logo, studio credits, and release date, before returning to an Adult Digory, with a slamming a book infront of the Pevs. "AND THAT is how it all Began!"

End trailer.
Of course as usual, this makes the film look different then it is, but first trailers (or teaser trailers) are to create a buzz, before the full one is out. Some of the shots and Duologue are possibly created just for the trailer.
