ooc: errrr.... Sorry about how long the post is. They had a lot to talk about.
"Just one moment, Carmen," the Prof. called out, "I'll be done in just a moment."
Turning back to Nate he said, "Do you know why you're here, Nathan?"
" 'Cos I'm a mutant, I guess." Nate sulkily answered. To himself he thought, "Great, this is going to be another 'how to be a mutant' speech. I've heard this a thousand times." Nate casually rolled his eyes.
"Yes, that is part of the reason why you are here, but I want to tell you Nathan that you are a special mutant."
Nate lifted an eyebrow, "A special mutant? What exactly do you mean by that? I thought all mutants were special?"
"Oh they are Nathan, they are. But you are, it's hard to put it into words, you are extra special. You have been endowed with special gifts, that one mutant in a million will possess."
"What exactly are these 'extra special gifts'?"
"Even I can't begin to imagine them," the Prof. replied, "to begin with you have a high level of telekinesis. You can move things with your mind. And also you have a high potential for telepathy, reading other peoples thoughts."
"And what's so 'extra special' about them?" Nate retorted, "I've heard of plenty of mutants with those capabilities."
"Yes, but you have potential reaching beyond what any other mutant has been able to reach, save for one."
"Who?"
The Prof. sighed, "I don't think, it would be wise to say now, but Nathan what I'm telling you is that with your potential, you can do anything you want. Literally, anything."
"Oh yeah? So where is this great power of mine?"
"It's lying dormant. If you continue to study here, I will personally train you to master your power, but you can choose not to study here, and I will release all you power from it's dormant state. The choice is before you Nathan, you can choose ultimate power now, or a little bit at a time."
Nathan sat still for a long while, thinking about it. Finally he spoke up, "Prof..... I'd like to stay on at the school and study."
The Prof breathed a silent prayer of thanks.
"Very good Nate. Now you may go and find yourself a suitable room and get settled."
"Thank you, Prof."
After they shook hands, Nathan picked up his bag and walked towards the door.
"Nathan," the Prof. called to him, Nathan turned around with an expectant look on his face, "Welcome to the Institute."
Nate smiled in response and walked out the door.
