Prince Caspian: Ben Barnes & why is he so old?

Yup, the forum gets screen time in the movie. :p

I hope they do a good job on the Faun dance! it always seemed so neat..their little dances and all. :D

Narniafans unite

Please do not judge Ben on his age:mad: ... Age is nothing but a number!!!!!

Please as Narniafans we must unite and not make this an issue, since we have not seen him act. We must not at all in anyway make this similiar to the rather scathing remarks given to the 'Eragon' actor because of his looks. We can only make a humble opinion of him once we seen him act.

Then we can lynch him :p ....ok, ok just kidding but seriously keep an open mind.

I'm judging Ben by his age, and I don't understand why this is a problem? We're having a discussion here, and both viewpoints are allowed. Why does everyone want the people who are worried about this casting announcement to stop expressing themselves? That's what these threads are about.

Ben is 25 years old, five years older than Will, when in the book it is implied the reason he needs the help of the ancient kings and queens is that he's "just a kid." Yes, Ben is doubtless a good actor and can doubtless seem to be Will's age rather than 5 years older than Will -- but keep in mind Will is playing a boy about 5 years younger than himself: can Ben indeed play a boy 10 years younger than himself? Doubtful.

Understand: I don't think this ruins the movie at all. Just as Peter Jackson did not ruin LOTR by all the various ways he defied the story, I am sure Adamson will not ruin PC by rewriting the story -- it will just be a different story than the one we know and love, about an older boy. The idea of a romance is distressing, and I hope Adamson will think better of it.

I trust Adamson and feel he will make a great movie. I just think the story is going to have to be different because too much of Caspian's character i the book is related to his youth, and I just don't think Ben can act that young. I am sure for VDT he will be perfect.

That is not what it says in the book believe me, I just read it again. I practically have it memorized, the reason they needed help is because they were very outnumbered.

Thank you, Inkspot!

The man has too much maturity that he carries into the role, and Caspian isn't supposed to have the kind of maturity that makes him wise beyond his years.. I really am worried they're going to, I don't know- corrupt, in a way, because..... well, y'all already know how I feel on the subject.

It's really not about the acting skill. I hate to say it, but I'm quite biased already against him.. if he was William's age, I'd even be alright with it. Being 25 and playing a kid is a little too much of a stretch- at least to me.

I feel like I am repeating myself, being thirteen nowadays is different from being thirteen in Narnia. Cause the Narnians had a more middleages understanding of adulthood. People in 1600's would have laughed at the fact that we are calling thirteen a child. this is a veiw that the Narnians would have held too.

But, even though they were treated and acted like adults doesn't mean they were as big as a full-grown person.

Hmmm..Maybe Ben wont act so mature while he's playing caspian. as some of you are complaining that he's a grown man and is mature, while Caspian is merely 13 and not as mature.

A very good point Ink. One thought Carl had the other night when we were talking off the forum was that since they're filming PC and VDT back to back, they wanted someone who could be basically believable in both. I wonder personaly if they will have another kid play the Caspian role in a small part at the begining like they had a few play older Pevensies at the end of LWW. They could flush out some of the story that way. For the main part it will be interesting to see how Ben acts. Make-up can do wonders...we'll see how many when it comes out. Then when they head immediately into VDT he should be fine. I think it would be difficult if not impossible to find someone to fit the role in doing the movies back to back.

I'm sad to think of changes in the story myself...it's the story that I love. All of the special effects in the world won't make it better for me if it's changed too much. I'm sure Andrew will make it a good movie. I have to say I'm just not sure what to think and won't till I see the movie. It will be a good movie...just don't know if it will be ruined for me personally because I love the story so much and hate changes. I hate the idea of scenes being cut out like Trumpkin's dual with Ed and archery match with Sue...or being changed. I wouldn't care if there was an archery dual between Caspian and Susan so much as long as it wasn't in lu of Trumpkin's scenes. Flushing the story out is fine as long as it's not at the expense of what should be there.

I'm excited to see what Ben brings to it all and how he does. It's more than a year away and some other major blockbusters will be released the same week...it would be sad if we all got so down on the movie that we didnt want to rush out and see it when it releases...and take everyone we know with us.

It was implied on NarniaWeb in the spoilers from Caspiankid via the scripts he used to audition with that this would be the case...and that Trumpkin wouldn't be present when Caspian wakes up with Nikabrik and Trufflehunter.

I think it would be easier for any of the actors, especially Ben for them to have the scenes done as closely to the books as possible. However, this all being said...the movie hasn't come out yet, nothing or not much has been filmed yet, what was used for auditioning isn't concrete for a movie, and the final product is not in our hands...so...it's too early to judge anything. I'm just saying that I hate the idea of changes of that nature. Hopefully they'll be smart enough to not go those routes. They'll spend too much of their proverbial change with the fans too early and they won't have enough support to make the rest of CON a hit later because they won't have the trust from fans that leads to the pocket books.

We'll see.
