Prince Caspian: Ben Barnes & why is he so old?

Well, according to reports from site members who auditioned for the role of Caspian and who asked...there won't be any child Caspian at all. That's what they told us so that's what I'm basing my info on.

Ben doesn't look bad for the role overall, it's just a shame that they aren't doing the flashbacks if they're using someone that old. Why they didn't want that in the script I don't know. It leaves out a lot about Caspian, who he is and what he's like.

I am happy with the casting.
I dont remember if the books ever says the real age of Caspian (Prince Caspian book) So, for me the actor is perfect.
I prefer more like an adult than another kid.
I never imagined him blonde either, so I like thr dark haired thing.
Usually all movies change dark haired character for blonde, I dont know why XD

Hey Tambourine...welcome to TDL. If you'd like, head on over to the Tea With Mr Tumnus section and introduce yourself in the Introduction thread if you haven't yet. Hope you enjoy TDL and if you have any questions feel free to ask.

In the book when Peter first sees Caspian it says he saw a boy that looked about his age. But in the backstory that Trumpkin tells, there's a ton about him as a kid. It makes his character make more sense.

Oh, my. If they do not show Caspian as a youngster, then they cannot show his relationship with his old nurse, which makes for one of the sweetest scenes in the book, when they are reunited. And surely Dr. Cornelius came to him after the nurse was sent away in disgrace, so Caspian must have been pretty small, considering he still had a nurse. I will be very sad if they do not present Caspian's childhood for us! :(

On a happier note, in the teaser/trailer, Ben Barnes' seems like a good Caspian, and they have made him look about Will's age, so for that part of the story, I think he will be very good.

I'd agree with ya Ink! He looks like he will do a great job.

I was just basing what I said off of what Alex (ABright5) said before after his audition for Caspian.

I agree, when I heard about Ben being cast, I didn't really think anything of it, like I wasn't against him or for him being cast, but now I've seen the teaser/trailer I am definately for! hehe, it looks great and I think he will do a great job, its made me even more excited about the film!

I know what you mean, Inky.. And even if they choose to put the Caspian-and-his-nurse reunion in there without the flashbacks, it won't make much sense to the general audience... unless they mention something about it in the beginning. It would still be disappointing for me if they just even gave a really quick rehash with no flashback. Technically, the beginning flashbacks or, as told by Trumpkin, are the most important aspects of the book, because they lay the basic foundations for the current story. Ya know?

They may not call her a nurse (a governess maybe) and still be able to get away with Caspian still having her around at his age.

I suppose that is possible. And then when she is banished, and Cornelius turns up, it can all happen when he is supposed to be in his young teens instead of a young boy.

But I agree with PC that all which happens in his childhood really lays the ground work for the story.

From what I've seen Ben Barnes looks like he'll make a great Caspian X. It's good to know that he's actually has read the Chronicles and that he is big fan of Narnia.

Yeah. I was like "YAY!!" when he said he was a huge fan of the Chronicles as a kid in the preview. I'm sure he'll be good, if not great. Casting fans of the books being made into movies has proved successful before...Evanna Lynch was the incarnation of Luna Lovegood in HP5, even if the rest of the movie sucked.
