Production Blog

Weird. I wouldn't mind if they altered the storyline a little. When I read the production blog for the screenplay I was really excited! I'd love to see the four kids adjust to being ordinary again. To me, these books aren't novels but children's books, so it's difficult I think for a movie to be worse than the book. Not that the books are bad! They just aren't complicated.

My only concerns about the movie are the animal and voice casting. Ben Barnes is kind of cute; age aside, he's princely enough for Caspian (I think). The settings are important to me, too. We'll just have to cross our fingers.

this is kinda off-topic but a few months ago the ceo of walden media came to my college and spoke to us film majors. at the time, prince caspian was still in the pre-production stage and it was going well, they're trying to stay as faithful to the book as possible. he also said their marketing campaign for the sequel is gonna be even fiercer, which got me all excited. i was in a hurry to prepare for a shoot that day, and to be honest i'm still kicking myself for not talking to him and volunteering to be on the prince caspian crew or something (he probably would've said no, but i should've asked anyways).

Does anyone know anything about the change in the storyline so that the children are united with Caspian early? I am seriously questioning this. I just can't see the wisdom in changing the order of events. I think that the story will loose some of that power of the allagory that Lewis was useing if you change things too much.

Okay just saw that you have been discussing that for a while now sorry for being slow

I agree that the exploration of their lives back in London could be a bit interesting but the deviations from the storyline in narnia sound really dangerous. The LOTR movies had a whole lot of plot jumping and they did just fine. They were understandable and they flowed as good as anything. These directors need to understand that these stories are powerfull because they are pointing to truths that are beautiful and I seriously doubt that they have the ability to write that in the way Jack did. They certainly do not have the theological wherewithall to fudge the stories and still get the same effect. Like in LWW when the children were in the bevers dam and Mr. Beaver was doing his monolouge and they compleatly omited one of the most powerfull lines in the whole book. " Havn't you been listening to what Mrs. Beaver has been saying? Of course he's not safe. He's GOOD!! " Then they tagged it on the end with none of the power that it had where it is supposed to be. I was horrified! I really hope that they reconsider any changes and make sure that they are keeping the integrity of the original story.

Any comments?

I do not think that Douglas Gresham had as much power when they were writing the script for LWW. I think that it will be ok.
