Production Blog

On the contrary, i think it would be very interesting if they added a little romance, not a lot, but just a little too keep the story interesting.
No, it will not be interesting.. It will be disgusting! The story is already well-developed without having to add romance. Prince Caspian is supposed to be purely action... and Disney or whoever is just trying to turn it into another Pirates by putting everything in there- action, romance, comedy.

I would expect Caspian to have a little more respect for a figure of Susan's importance. He shouldn't look at her and say, "Wow, I want her." She's a queen from the Golden Age! If he feels anything it should be awed respect.

OK, I just now looked up the blog and saw the teaser trailer. Ben Barnes looks as if he will do a good job. :)

I am still wondering how they will do the childhood bit. Although they have made him look William's age (which Caspian and Peter are supposed to be about the same age), that is much too old for the parts of the story where he loses his nurse, gets Cornelius as a tutor, etc. If someone already posted this, sorry: are they going to have a llittle boy actor for those parts?

I agree with you on the first part....

And to the second, I think they're either going to do some sort of flashback thing with a kid actor or they're going to make themselves look ridiculous by trying to make Ben up as a twelve year old. LOL :p

hahahaha...funny...
the romance is not needed. I mean, C.S. Lewis already put some in voyage and that was enough...it was just the right amount and it was very cute! but...more then that just gets way too mushy in my opinion.

does the script say susan and caspian's romance is the reason she deserts narnia, because she couldn't have caspian? that would be weird and lame. :( but maybe i misunderstood ...

I know, really! I totally agree....

Off topic, but I LOVE your banner, Gwen!

That's what I thought too... I read somewhere that that was what Andrew Adamson said. :[

Whoa, that would be very weak! Why would they want to mess the thing up like that? As it is Susan is a symbol of people who grow up and move away from their childlike faith, very accessible to everyone. If they make it that she's heart-broken over Caspian and so she stays away, that will make the whole Narnia adventure something bad that happened to her, rather than something good which she rejects ... how sad. :(

I KNOW!! it better not happen that way...i really hope not.

yea i'm not a fan of the would-be-romance between susan and caspian. first of all, we know it's not going anywhere since derr, caspian's gonna end up with ramandu's gorgeous daughter. second of all, it's a little out of character for susan, at least this early in the stories. third of all, it's distracting and not in the books. but most of all, i'm scared i'll be one of those suckers who see the romance on screen and goes *swoon* cos they're both really cute or something.

I, too, am very much against any romance in this movie. There is absolutely no need for anything like that as others have mentioned.

It would also add a weird aspect to VotDT when Susan goes to America. Would the romance woes be a part of the discussion when parting? I am sure they would talk about Narnia with Peter going to stay with the Professor. It would also add a bit of weirdness when Lucy and Edmund join Caspian on the Dawn Treader. How would he do things differently around the siblings of his former love?

There better not be a romance. It is enough how many changes they seem to be making as it is.

I completely agree. But as far as we know there is no real source that confirms that there is in fact romance. All we know is that there might be some flirtation. Hopefully nothing more...we'll just have to see.

As a purist, I am praying that the glance back towards Susan was simply Caspian checking w/her to make sure his aim is correct and/or in awe of her as one of the legendary queens of Narnia, summoned there by his belief in Dr. Cornelius' faith that Susan's horn would call forth "strange help."

I don't mind Caspian's age as much as I used to, or them adding more action scenes, as long as it doesn't change the integrity of the story...it might draw larger audiences & a wider demographic like LOTR did.

I do hope, that like Peter Jackson, Andrew Adamson reads/pays attention to fan pleas & gets rid of any teen "romance" planned for PC to try to create another Disney "blockbuster" like Pirates (sorry folks...I think all the Pirates movies, while visually stunning, were virtually plotless!)

One thing I know is that the blog clip is just putting in all the random bits that they hope to use to attract audiences to the theater (like with any trailer) & it may not be in any way indicative of the actual movie. I've seen plenty of trailers/advertisements that either were in no way related to the final product and also that the final film had bits shown in the trailer missing! We can only hope! ;-)

Two examples I can think of are these: 1. The classic Christmas film, "It's A Wonderful Life" was originally billed/advertised as a Romantic Comedy! Can you believe it! And it didn't originally do well at the box office; now it's one of the most beloved epic DRAMAS of all time! 2. the Mormon church did a hilarious & wonderful tribute/version of Pride & Prejudice a couple of years ago called "Pride & Prejudice: A Latter Day Comedy." The advert./trailer was just horrificly cheesy & totally looked like a shallow & even somewhat sleazy "romance." The actual film was nothing like that & was both pure & charming!

So...while I have some reservations about PC (which doesn't bug me too much in that PC is probably my least favorite of all 7 books) from what I can so far gather for the film, I'll have to wait to really judge the film's integrity to the books when I actually see it! I think/hope we will all be pleasantly surprised?!

I'm not for that, "I want her" type of romance, I'm talking about an admiration. He sees her as the Queen far above him, and maybe become protective of her, making sure nothing will happen to her, especially with all the fighting going on. And they kind of have an admiration for each other, which is eventually forgotten when she goes back to England.

I agree with that statement. When I saw the production blog he looked practically perfect for the part. He seemed just as old as Peter, which is what it's supposed to be like...so i'm not that worried.

I don't mind admiration. He should admire her, as he's admired all the other great Narnian leaders from the past. But flirting? Get real, Mr. Adamson!

I honestly think that I have not heard anything but other TDL people cojecturing on whether they were going to use that as why Susan turns her back on Narnia. I do not think that it was Adamson's intention to make that part of the reason why she rejects Narnia in the end. But they may be trying to Demonstrate that Susan's growing to fast by the stuff with Caspian.

I just do not think that that was his intention.

And I will reserve my judgement on the whole matter also until we find out the intiator of the flirtation. It may be Susan rather than Caspian who is flirting.

If so....... then, SHAME ON YOU, SUSAN!

Haha... namely me. But I could swear that I read something about Andrew saying something like that. I'll have to find it. :D

Hmm.... I was pretty sure it was Andrew.

Oh, well. I'll check around and if I don't find anything, I guess it probably was you. In which case, I'll need to drop the "Susan flirts thus disbelieves" argument. :p
