They were bad guys in The Original Series. So in the new movie, we're back in that time period, where they're bad. But only, it's Romulans who are the real baddied in the movie.

...(<_<) so yesterday I was up in Helen GA which is this big time tourist trap in the GA mountains and I found this t-shirt with the TNG crew and I bought it. It fits me like a nightgown, so I wear it to bed...so I can dream about Beverly and Picard and me and Wesley  ;)

Awww, that sounds great!

The other day a flight attendant told me "The Star Trek Experience" motion rides from the Las Vegas Hilton are being moved and reopened on Fremont Street in Vegas. If this is true, it is good news! The rides are cool, plus there was this whole time-line/museum you could walk through and see costumes and props and Star Trek history, and when the Experience was at the Vegas hilton, there was also a fabulous gift shop with all kinds of Star Trek merchandise.

I am going to search online and see if I can find out about it ...

I'm a little horrified I'm even posting on this thread... haha. I've always laughed so hard at Trekkies, but after seeing the new movie I think it's REALLY cool. I've only ever seen about 15 minutes of any ST show, but my interest is piqued! My best friend's mom is a hardcore fan and my mom loves it, too.... is there any chance that someone who just loves the new movie could actually get into the old shows?

There IS possibility! I know firsthand! I first became a Trekkie Dec 6 2009 after seeing the new film. My Mom, a HUGE trekkie, started geting me DVDs of the Original Series' films and episodes and now, though I've only seen a few episodes (though I've seen all but two of the movies!!) I like the original series even better than the new one! Give them a try---they're amazing!!
The Next Generation is also really really good, and Deep Space Nine. I never watched Voyager or Enterprise, so I dunno about those.

I hope you like them! Once you are familiar with the old tv shows, then a lot of the nuances and jokes in the films are even more charming ... Welcome to Trekkie-ness!

Very true! Once I got to know more about the originals, the new one made much more sense and the little references were much more fun!

Since this is the all-things-Trekkie thread, I thought I'd post a couple of links that I found while doing some research a couple of days ago... dunno if they've already been posted but....

www.watchtrek.com - The site says it has every Star Trek episode ever streaming free on the website! I don't know how legit it is, but I thought it might be worth posting (since I keep seeing people tell other people about it). And if you've got some free time... (haha)

www.memory-alpha.org - Star Trek Wiki. I wasted way too much time on this site :p

I've read up tons on it but still haven't gotten to watch any of the Original Series! Don't have any headphones and there aren't any speakers to the computers :( As soon as I get some headphones I'll probably end up wasting an entire weekend on a marathon of it... haha

Ohh, I almost forgot... there's an extremely interesting article about the Vulcan salute on wikipedia.... And I just thought it was made up for the show

Deep Space Nine.

I have several favorite characters, but can't choose an absolute favorite, so will just list them.

Benjamin Sisko.
Kira Nerys.
Jadzia Dax (no, Ezri does not count!!!!).
Ro Laren.
B'Elanna Torres.
Seven of Nine.

awww ezri was cute...but yeah ruined my whole dream of Worf actually keeping a wife :p

anyways, so my boyfriend got me 300+ star trek novels for my b-day, all from like the 70s and 80s. Yeah. It's gonna take me forever to read them all. And the other day I bought a Voyager novel. Needless to say, my obsession with Star Trek this month has been quenched. Only thing I need to do now is buy all the Voyager dvds. I only have season 5 :p

I've read a bunch of ST novels. I like them because they're a formula, so you know it's going to come out OK ... what a nice gift!

If you're a Star Trek ToS fan, there's a great pair that go together -- one is called "Yesterday's Child," and I can't remember the other, but they both deal with the woman Spock fell in love with when he went back in time -- to the Ice Age, on that one planet? I think her name was Zara or something -- anyway, her and her son ... It's cool.

There's also one about Uhura, I think called "Tears of the Singer" that's pretty good.

Also, the ones about Khan were interesting to me -- Maybe they're called "Eugenics Wars" or something like that.

And there's a series that's fairly recent in the past 10 years "Errand of Fury" or some such, that focus on a pair of Klingon brothers caught up in intrigues with the federation and the coming war between the Federation and Klingons -- if you remember that popinjay Fox, the diplomat who almost brought tragedy to the Enterprise -- he appears and gets rehabilitated as a hero. It's a cool series.

I'll definitely check some of those out, thanks! :D
