The first record I ever saved up for and bought myself was the Rankin-Bass Hobbit one. I even still have it!

That said, I'm not too trusting of those developing the one or two Hobbit films at this point... already seeing talk of removing some of the Dwarves because they think there's too many (but what about his being the Lucky Number then?) plus you have a director who likes dark, creepy things and is already just carrying on about wargs, spiders and orcs. Excuse me... um, isn't this about a HOBBIT...? Sigh.... I no longer know if this lovely tale Tolkien wrote for children will be watchable by children.

Time will tell.

thats the problem with movies they are always differnt from the book hopefully they will stay with what the book says but in the end hollwood will do what they think will sell the movie in the end. Its a shame really that they do that. lww and pc movies I liked and they were differnt from the book. I wonder if C.S. lewis was alive what would he think of the movies?
..................................................

Still cant wait for the hobbit to come out :D

Actually, almost ANYONE can go and write stuff on wikipedia.

It's good for finding out a quick general idea of the topic you are looking up, but for research, you are better off somewhere else.

I meant anyone...fans was just the word I had on my mind. :p

I imagine lewis didnt' want the Narnia books turned into films because he didn't feel like the content or the books could be adapted properly; I'm fine with prince caspian, most people aren't.

But The Hobbit is kinda dark anyways...the whole Mirkwood thing kinda freaked me out.

Yeah, I'm not thrilled by the prospect of the movie screen being filled with closeups of giant spiders for at least ten minutes of the Hobbit movie's running time; but that IS in the book, after all. I'm not _afraid_ of spiders, but I am _disgusted_ by them.

Personally I wish Peter was directing Hobbit. He did such an amazing job on the trilogy, despite what people say about him (best director of 2003, anyone?) that he should be directing Hobbit. I think Peter would keep it closer to the book and he wouldn't divert to really dark things...unless they're part of the book.

Jason Carter, the "Ranger" from "Babylon Five," could portray Bard. As for Beorn, his unusual nature--as with Narnian Centaurs--should allow free choice of the skin color of the actor playing him. He wouldn't have to look European. I say, cast Michael Clarke Duncan.

Well, he directed King Kong, which was supposed to be a big movie but was instead a flop...he should direct Hobbit. I think that's the only way good continuinity would be kept.

Actually, Peter Jackson is executive Producing, and he along with Fran Walsh, Phillppa Boyens ( PJ's screen writing team for LOTR) and Gullirmo Del Toro are working on the screenplay. I've read set reports that say they are going through countless copies of The Hobbit, and Tolkiens notes, underlining and highlighting everything. So don't worry, PJ is still very much with us. ALso, Del Toro has registered with the Forums for TORN and is taking part in discussions with the fans to give them what they want in the film.

Here is one thing song I hope doesn't end up on the soundtrack, though it would be funny. http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC73PHdQX04

Hey guys,

after a long time I finally got some more info---

FROM IMDB--

Filmmaker Peter Jackson has warned Lord Of The Rings fans not to get too excited about The Hobbit prequels - because they have yet to receive the go-ahead from movie studio executives.

Jackson has signed on to co-write and co-produce two Hobbit movies, based on the fantasy novels by J.R.R. Tolkien, which will be directed by Guillermo del Toro.

Reports suggest the first film is slated for release in 2011, while the second part will follow in 2012.

But Jackson insists the projects are still in their very early stages - and they've yet to come up with a script, let alone secure funding for the movies, reports Starpulse.

Speaking at Comic-Con in San Diego, California at the weekend (25-26Jul09), Jackson said, "I mean, people assume that we have a green light and we're making the movie which we don't. I mean, we have to deliver the script. The studio obviously has to approve the script and then we have to budget that script because we have no budget yet. They're not going to make the film with an open cheque book so we have to figure out how much it's going to cost and if that's going to be okay."

And Jackson is refusing to begin speculating about casting until the script is finished - despite Lord of the Rings actors Sir Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis already expressing their desire to reprise their roles in the franchise.

He adds, "We have a process to go through that really, once we get the script delivered, we can break it down, we can do the budgeting, we can figure out schedules and we can move onto the second script that we have to obviously start writing immediately (after) the first one's done. Then we can start casting the movie once we have a budget and once the studio greenlight the movie."

Why are all the movies I want to see not coming out until 2010, 2011?:( And another thing; all the good movies everyone wants to see are postponed! Like VODT the Hobbit and such. Still I suppose if things went too fast the movies wouldn't be as good.;)

Exactly. Acter seeing how well done LOTR was, the last thing I want is for the Hobbit to look cheap and cheesy.

Well, Yahoo! reported today that The Hobbit has been given the green light to go ahead, and guess who'll be back to direct? Yep, you guessed it; peter Jackson himself! No word yet on when it'll be released, but production is set to start next February.

Martin Freeman is rumored to star as Bilbo Baggins, and I'm assuming that Ian McKellen will be back as Gandalf.

Discuss; who should be cast as the other main characters? What are you looking forward to the most?
