Bryan pulled his sword from the gut of the goblin he had just thrust it into. He looked around and tallied up 4 in his head. "Average size for a recon party.." he mentioned to himself. He cleaned off his sword, and set about building a pyre of bodies to burn..

He tossed in everything, excluding the weapons. The weapons he threw into a pile to use in a more distant time.

After he finished his dark task, and bandaging his left leg which had been cut, he continued on. Remaining ever vigilant on finding the tigress..

Marius enters the cave, a small feat for a centaur and comes upon, two startled scared fauns, a dwarf, and (Mods, may I say there is "what looks to be a small son of Adam or daughter of Eve at the back of the cave? NPC?) After inspecting all, and seeing no danger he exits and quickly motions the Tigress and Gryphon inside.

"Life and peace to all who honor Aslan" were Ninecatcher's first words upon entering the cave. "I am a Tigress descended from the first Talking Tigers created by Aslan, but my clan has long dwelt outside Narnia. Now, I have come to the ancestral realm to help as I can against this evil."

Mod Aproval, please.

"T-t-t the same to you, one of the fawns stuttered."

"We found this in the woods," the dwarf said Pointing back to (A daughter of Eve. Terribly skinny and covered in dirt and twigs and leaves.?) He looked at the Tigress for a moment then continued. "We though maybe you could Do something for her." He finished, another meaning in his words. She'll soon find her if we don't.

Marius hmphed gruffly, and turned to the Tigress. Gesturing to the young girl, he asked "Is this what you were commished to do?" (She did tell him about that right?)

OOC: If this is not alright, please tell me and I'll write a new post or salvage this one.

Ninecatcher nodded. (I assume that this NPC girl is old enough to speak, and if she's Narnian she won't find a Talking Tigress too strange.) Then the Tigress carefully maneuvered herself close to the child in the cramped confines of the den, and said in a very humanlike voice, "Dear little human, I don't like this cold weather. It's freezing out there, isn't it? Would you please allow me to lie down close to you so I can get a little bit warmer?"

"It is cold." The young girl nodded, in a solemn manner that the Tigress could lay beside her. After all, it was cold, even in the back of the cave.

Marius, hand on his sword, sunk down on his haunches to rest awhile only after noting the dwarf with bow and arrow in close reach. "Who was Chasing you?"

OOC: not too young, but not too old either. Maybe 10, 12. possibly short. maybe she was living with dwarves.

Ninecatcher, of course, was really doing this to GIVE warmth, not to receive it. She began a deep, soothing tiger purr to put the child more at ease, before asking the sadly necessary questions.

The other faun begins. "Wolves. Terrible wolves."

"Ach" growls the dwarf, "and them horrid goblins too. Always prowling around here. And just last week, those noisy Minotaurs came through. trampling all over the place."

"The witch is tightening her grasp," the first faun says.

"More like noose, if you ask me." the dwarf snorts.

The young girl looks at the Tigress and centaur. "Please don't let them catch me." she whimpers.

ooc: is there no fire in the cave?

Bryan stumbled through the undergrowth of the forest. It was rough going. He dove for cover with each alien sound, making the going slow as well. It was just about dark when he decided he should look for cover. After searching a little while, he discerned a rock outcropping up ahead..

OOC: A fire could attract attention; besides, these fugitives might have had to flee so fast as not to be able to bring complete survival gear. Now, please assume that the following still is at least a few minutes before the (very welcome!) arrival of Bryan on the scene....

"Child of Adam and Eve," said Ninecatcher to the unfortunate waif, "I shall either bring you to safety, or die in the attempt. But I must know, and I am sorry I have to ask this: do you have any family left in this area?"

The child sniffs, "Don't know. She got Mamma and Papa. Bran an' Bret might be 'round. But 'don't know where. She might got them too." She buries her face in the Tigress's fur.

"Listen well, dear child," said Ninecatcher, tenderly nuzzling the human cub. "If your family members knew that you were with me, I'm sure they would want me to get you to a safe place no matter what. I have to tell you that I do not have the power to help anyone who is actually in the hands of the great evil one you mentioned. But I can take you out of Narnia, into Archenland, where that evildoer's magic does not reach. Now, another thing: how long has it been since you had anything to eat?"

She thinks for a bit. Then looks bewildered. "I don't know. It seems so long ago."

Marius takes some preserved food out of his pouch and hands it to her. "If you can stand it." He looks of the stern centaur and he finally hands it to one of the fauns to hand to her.

OOC:unless you had something else in mind.

OOC: In extremity, Ninecatcher was going to wound herself and give the child her own blood to drink; but the rations sound good. :p

While the famished child was eating, Ninecatcher told the others, "My supreme priority is to save human lives--not because other lives of reasoning creatures are less valuable, but because I have it directly from the mouth of Aslan that humans are the only ones whom our enemy wishes to exterminate entirely. Other races, she will permit to surrender to her, if they will; but with humans, her plan is no prisoners, no mercy. This means that humans are in the greatest need of escape to the outside.

"But this does not mean that beings of other kinds _can't_ also depart Narnia. I will help other kinds also, if I can. But as Marius would be quick to say if I didn't, there is need of brave Narnian beings to keep up a secret resistance within this land."

"You've seen Aslan?" They all chorus at once, aside from Marius. He merely watches the Tigress and other with a skeptical eye. He raises a brow at the tigress's last statement concerning him.

"Yes, my husband Gripstone and I did in fact meet Him, when He announced that the mission of our people had begun. Other Tigers also saw and worshipped Him, as did beings of other kinds who dwell in fellowship with us in our refuge in the south. Once you have actually met Aslan, you're never the same. As He spoke, we were all filled with two contrasting feelings at once: the greatest urgency we had ever known for something to be done right (so as to please Him), yet also a limitless peace in which complete failure would not break our spirits, provided we had been trying to do our Lord's will.

"One thing we were told by the Lion was that there were Narnians, human and otherwise, who had lost faith and integrity, and that this had something to do with the Enemy being allowed to prevail for a time. But He stressed, 'for a time.' She will NOT be allowed to reign for always. In fact, there are beings long-lived enough that they will live to see her destroyed. But my errand is for the short term."

Ninecatcher did not feel she had compromised Marius by the terse reference she had made to him and to resistance. It was hardly a secret that he was against Jadis.

OOC:He wasn't raising an eye about that. it was more like. And you know what I would say?

"Well, I'm with you. Don't know about the rest of you." The Dwarf says. "you can send theses fauns on if they're to scarred. The fauns of course are not disposed to this statement and it earns the dwarf some glares. "We're with you," the first faun says, "my brother can go with the Tigress and child. I shall come with you further into Narnia to gather more troops. He looks to the child, She is fast asleep.

"Those who need to escape," Ninecatcher elaborated, "will not thereby be betraying Narnia--provided that when living _outside_ Narnia, they are maintaining the ways of Aslan. Someone will need to be doing that, so that they--or their descendants--will be able to come back and help rebuild Narnian society once the tyrant is overthrown. Aslan told us that, in the world of Adam and Eve, something similar happened with some humans known as Israelites. But that is someone else's story."

Bryan reached the outcropping and plopped himself down on one of the rocks to use as a ledge. He stretched out and adjusted his armor strap which had begun to loosen. He finished, and silently gazed out into the forest, taking in his surroundings..

At first it was subtle, but he strained his ears to find that there were voices nearby. Taking a moment to discern the location of the voices, he began to cautiously move in that direction...happening upon the cave, he threw himself against a side wall, and peered in seeing pale forms but could neither pick out who or what they were saying. From his viewpoint, he only caught the image of 3 small forms, something he could he easily handle by himself. Silently, he drew his sword, and stepped forward..

Detecting and recognizing the Archenlander by scent, Ninecatcher called out to him, "Bryan! It's I, Ninecatcher, with some others; come on in here!" To Marius and Retaw, neither of whom had her keen sense of smell, she said, "A human friend is here, one I met in Archenland."

OOC: It's perfectly conceivable that Marius and Bryan could have met each other before, even fought beside each other in past battles.
