ooc: Very well then.

Quite relieved, Bryan sheathed his sword and stepped up to the group. Nodding to each individually, he said to them, "Greetings from Archenland, friends, I am Lt.Capt. Bryan of the Elite Guard." Facing Marius, "It is good to find such a one as capable as yourself in these dark times. It'll be just like old times, eh?" Now turning towards Ninecatcher, he kneels to the ground to be level with the prone Tigress. "I have news of your mate, Gripstone. He has recovered far better than we could have hoped. A few scars remain, but he is almost to full strength. You must be proud to have such an admirable mate, he spoke of you most lovingly oft times."

Standing up, and addressing the group, "Now to business. Let me be the first to extend Archenland's deepest condolences for the loss of much of your land to the Evil one. I'll have you know, we constantly are patroling borders, extending out of our own territory to remove any stain we come across. We have suffered losses (Bryan glances towards the Heavens and grimaces) but none compared to what you have lost. I have come with orders to report to any authority figure *he nods to Marius* and gain a sense of what is happening. I also am very happy to have the privilege to extend a very gracious offer to all Narnian Sons of Adam and Daughters of Eve. Archenland has decreed that our borders are completely open to you hunted ones, and we will set you up in our towns and cities until all is made safe." Satisfied, stood at ease and waited for a response...

"Praise be to Aslan for your loyalty!" exclaimed Ninecatcher. "I'm sure that the longtime dwellers in Narnia know, as I know, how true-hearted are the Archenlandish people. But I fear that our great enemy will be taking steps to close off the border from _this_ side. You already know, of course, of her seeking to block the mountain routes. I think I only got through the main pass this morning because they were distracted. Now that I already have one human orphan in my care--" she nodded toward the little girl whom she had warmed and whom the Centaur had fed; "--I am considering whether it may be possible to get to the coast with her, and bring her south to Archenland by that way, bypassing the mountains."

Marius listens to conversation for a while, then speaks. "It may be. Perhaps a diversion would be helpful?"He questions with a grim smile. "To strike at her so that she thinks we are operating, where we are not. Perhaps a raid is in order?"

He considered the possibilities of a southern route from the coast into Archenland for a few moments. Pacing, he finally spoke, "We know not the Witch's influence over the seas, but I think it is the safest route, the Narnian humans need to be protected at all costs. It is also that we dispatch a message to my superiors to provide naval support by deploying several caravels to the coast. Is that acceptable?"

"Also, a diversionary tactic is most laudable. A group could travel towards the mountains, a decent sized group, and have them make a large....ruckus, so to speak. I'm all for that."

"These are all well and good, but nothing will work without rest for the weary. I petition that we postpone planning until the morrow, what say ye? I'll volunteer for the first watch."

"Thank you, friends. I gratefully applaud the idea of a diversion; only, I urge not doing it too soon. Right now, I believe that this one girl, and the younger of the Fauns if he still is emigrating, can be smuggled out even without the diversionary raid, being so small a party. This will also give us practice for future movement, so to speak. I think the diversion should be reserved for when we need to conceal a _larger_ movement of escaping humans--unless, of course, there's a different reason for doing it sooner. After all, if we perform repeated diversions, the enemy will begin looking to see what it is we're distracting them from."

Marius frowns. "No, action in the sea would draw her attention to us. We must move by stealth and secrecy. I suggest that Bryan and I, and those who will come with me; That we head deeper into Narnia. And cause a diversion of some sort. She may already sense something going on if she is reminded of not having heard from her scouts in the north and south passages."

"Ninecatcher is right. We will hold off on the divertions. Perhaps it is best for just the faun, Tigress and girl go. To much of a party will draw attention."

Marius raises his eyes at Bryan's comments about rest for the weary. We must always be alert. But very well. I shall take the second and third if that is not disagreeable to all.

"Yes, I can understand the sense in a stealthy move. Diversion can wait, though I agree it should be done in a timely fashion".

"This could be true, we do not know the Witch's influence along the coast, but we could suspect the worst. What path then, Marius, would you suggest, if not by sea?"

"Agreed".

" I repeat, noble friends, that I don't mean we can't take ANY action against the enemy. It's just that, if we begin too soon telling the enemy, 'Hey, look over there to the west,' they will start saying, 'That means we really need to look east.' But I am no strategist. My own plans have narrowed down for now to just conveying this Daughter of Eve, and the younger Faun, to refuge."

"There's also the consideration of letting my husband in Archenland know what I'm doing," the Tigress continued. " I would have asked Retaw to fly the child there, only in these conditions I fear the girl would die of the chill on an air trip; but Retaw, maybe you could at some time simply bear messages?"

OOC: --which would also be a way to cope with Aravis-Y not posting as Retaw.

OOC Reply: Don't worry, Lil, you haven't done any harm; in a real-life crisis, people would be in some confusion or even disagreements, talking about what to do. You're okay. If Aravis-Y stays inactive, though, I would request that the Mods "make" her Gryphon character fly off to carry a message to Gripstone, from which Retaw can be said to have returned without mishap when Aravis-Y returns.

"I agree with Ninecatcher. It must be acomplished with as much stealth as nessesary." Marius states and looks toward the Gryphon as the Tigress asks, Retaw, maybe you could at some time simply bear messages?"

"Well spoken!" replied Ninecatcher. "I would ask you to carry a passenger, but these little ones could not take the chill of swiftly flying through such bitter cold air; I'm not sure I could either, were I small enough for you to carry. So my own request will be that you go to my husband Gripstone where he is lodged in Archenland; Lieutenant-Captain Bryan can probably tell you landmarks to watch for to find your goal. As for that, you could probably carry a written message from Bryan for his own leaders in the same flight.

"But my word for you to bring to Tiger Gripstone is quite simple. Tell him NOT to try to enter Narnia by either of the mountain passes. Tell him instead to come north along the seacoast, and look for me to be coming south by that route, which we hope the enemy has not yet thought of guarding."

Retaw sighed and said "that would be a little hard to remember, at least all, but I'll do my best" said Retaw with a little laughter

"It's all right, we can ask Bryan to write down my message for my husband, as well as his own for his people. Gripstone and I are both able to read, though unable to handle pens with our paws to write."

{ Now we need Driad54 to post as Bryan. }

"It would be my pleasure". Fetching [[what kind of writing tool? Whats the feather called?]] and a scroll, Bryan etched Ninecatchers desired message, and then asked, "Ninecatcher, would you like to include anything more personal for Gripstone?" While waiting for Ninecatcher to respond, Bryan carried on with writing his own report to his Commanding officers. He described to Retaw several geographic landmarks including stretches of grasslands, a marsh, and a river valley, which will lead him right to the encampment Gripstone was when he had left. "Once there Retaw, there will most assuredly be official couriers who can either relay my offical report, or there will already be a high ranking offical there."

OOC: Since Mr. Lewis imagined the invention of the sewing machine being reproduced in Narnia, it is not unreasonable for someone in Archenland to have invented PENCILS for portable use with no bothering about ink-bottles. Meanwhile, I think the word you wanted was "quill."

"Just one thing, which will remove any doubts in my husband's mind that the message is really from me. Tell him that I say: 'Food is so scarce here, I would even eat the scales from those fish if I had them now.' That's a sort of inside joke with him and me. But it leads to a serious thought. Have Gripstone ask his human benefactors, when he sets out for the coast, to tie onto his back, like a bundle on a pack horse, a parcel of bread and suchlike food suitable for Humans and Fauns."
