The Voyage of the Dawn Treader Trailer World Premiere

Why did they show Peter and Susan at the end when they aren't supposed to be back? Also, when Lucy (Georgie) was looking in the book it looked like Anna, which was weird. I thought Aslan would have been bigger, because Lucy (Georgie) is bigger. But, I did enjoy the trailer. I hope it is as good as they make it out to be. Too bad we have to wait until December. :p

The trailer moved so quickly that it's hard to make out details though. Keep that in mind. :)

Remember, in the book, Lucy compared herself (in looks) to Susan, who was "the beauty of the family". I.e. that's why Anna's face is in the book: I saw that and immediately thought, "spell of beauty!" Or whatever the name of that spell is. :p

If you'll remember from the book, Ed talked down to Caspian, the same way Peter talked down to him in the movie.

I remember the scene on Deatherwater Island, where they got into an argument about who was higher ranking. I just don't want Edmund and Caspian constantly at each other's throats. That would be...slightly annoying.

I didn't notice the mirror thing, but Aslan looked a bit like the BBC one in that scene. Then again, it's probably my crazy computer blurring the video.

Hey guys, I've merged these two threads, since they were on the exact same topic. Great discussion in both, keep it up! :)

I watched it twice before I realized it was a mirror; or at least what looks like a mirror. Look at the screenshots of some of the more confusing shots; it clears it up a bit. :)

I'm just going to post on here what I posted on imdb. I hope you see why I'm disappointed:

Wow. Wow. Wow. Just sooooooooooooooooooooo disappointed!

Ok, let's break down this failure of a trailer:

Starts out with birds merrily flapping away in front of what I guess is a Cathedral. There is a sign about enlisting.

Cut to Edmund - "Are you sure you're 18?" asks the registration officer. Edmund not so inconspicuously says, "WHY DO I LOOK OLDER?" (Is this supposed to be some inside joke about his age?)

After being called a squirt, we see why Edmund has it so hard: because he's a king. It's that age-old Pevensie problem (not at all mentioned in the books) where you develop an inferiority complex after returning from Narnia to our world. Why though should he worry about defending the country against Hitler, when he's SUPPOZE TO BE HELPING (Lucy) WID DA GROZE SHREES?

Next comes the painting, if that's what you want to call it. I've seen Jackson Pollock works far more profound than this computer-generated hodge-podge.

Not only that, but now we've suddenly left military recruitment outside and moved inside to Eustace's bedroom. People are probably wondering, "Who's that SMALLER squirt standing next to them?"

I thought the painting would be larger to begin with and water would burst through it in holes. Instead, it filters over like a controlled-special-effects cascade. It doesn't look real or convincing to me at all.

Then we see them swim up to the Dawn Treador. She looks as fake as she does in the previous stills-like a carnival ride!

Caspian hold Lucy at the top of the ladder. Is Edmund trying to fight them off with that prop?

Aslan, who is a few inches SHORTER than Lucy (I thought every year she grows, so too shall he), officially welcomes her. "You have come far, but your journey lies beyond" we hear him say.

What journey would that be? Saying "Hi" to an adorable mouse? Very epic. Waving to a Caprisun mermaid doing the backstroke? How adventerous. Watching a magician play boomerang with a colorful scroll?

No. And since there are no wars to fight this time (thank God), why ARE they here? In what ways are they ALL going to be tested?

For Edmund, it means facing suffocating green gases on the dark island. "I can make you my king" says Jadis, captivating the impressionable lad. Um, actually you can't sister, cuz u DEAD, remember? Go back to being dead please.

For Lucy, it means casting a spell on herself to be beautiful. Aslan is angry with her for just a second but rewards her by making it snow inside.

Apparently it doesn't have anything to do with Eustace or Caspian, as we barely see them in the trailer.

Then there is Liliandil, as I suppose we must now refer to her. She's pretty, blue, and can go from earth to sky faster than a shooting star. Once she marries Caspian, are they going to spend their honeymoon in the cosmos?

Luckily we get to see Aslan again at the end. But why do they show the Pevensies, walking down the beach like runway models? But we see barely any of Caspian, Drinian, Rynelf, Eustace, or Lord Bern. I hope they're not just extras in the actual film.

I could have done WITHOUT the voiceover in the trailer. I hope whoever edited the trailer does not edit the film! Scenes were jumbled in such an anticlimactic and disappointing way. Perhaps FOX and Walden Media should have spent the money on something else. This appears to be a total botch.

A few other comments:

Lucy and Edmund look stoned.

Caspian looks mad.

The shot with the dufflepuds looks like something out of Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland"

Why does Edmund's sword glow blue? Won't some people accuse Narnia of copying off of "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring"?

No offense to the producers, but when people watch a trailer, they usually don't care right then and there who's directing the movie.

And all this coming from a true Narnia fan who has been on this site and imdb almost daily for the past several years, and who HAD great expectations for this film.

Ummmm... yeah. Jadis is dead. The point of that line is quite possibly Edmund's dream on the Dark Island. That's a GOOD thing!

Who says Lucy cast a spell on herself? Have you even read the book? She says she's gonna do it in the book, you know, but sees Aslan in the page. In the movie, the page turns. Who says Aslan rewarded her with the snow?

I don't know all the answers, but your post looks like something written by someone who hates the trailer (which I suppose you do): you find nothing good in it. And you wrote this post so quickly that you didn't think about what you said... I think. Also, the whole point of a trailer is to make you wonder "WHAT"S that? What's THAT? WHAT'S THAT?!!!!!!!" You obviously don't like that.

A few other comments:
Edmund looks the same as in PC.

Lucy looks only a little older; there's not near as much a shock in her age difference as there was between the 1st two films.

Ben Barnes looks awesome, not mad. He's just not grinning.

Last comment: This trailer is not my favorite; the CGI is not great yet, and Peter and Susan make me cringe, but for the most part, I like this trailer because it gives me a fairly good feeling about the movie.

^No need to be hateful, even though I agree. The problem I have with this trailer is the fact that I felt like it was rushed. There is almost no time to "see" anything. I think every person (before commenting or posting) should watch the trailer at least twice to make sure of their opinion. Wait a few minutes, then post your thoughts. Because in reality, I wasn't sure what to think immediately after I saw it. I saw it about 3 times successively before I put my thoughts into words.

Owww don't get me wrong Steph ;) I liked the trailer. I only wondered a bit about some scenes but would certainly NOT tear the movie down ;)
Btw I like your comments. They are not only useful but you also make it look in a different way without judging too soon ;)

I personally am very skeptic about the trailer. It was okay but it did not make me wish that December would come faster. There was nothing in the trailer that showed that the movie has the same themes and ideas in it as the book. In fact, the part with Edmund makes me wonder if this movie with be just another disaster, like PC.

The only thing I know is, I don't know what the script holds. I don't know what's in the movie and what isn't. I would hope that it has everythin Lewis would want in the film. But I also know that most people interpret things differently than me. Often times, their vision isn't mine; case in point: Lilliandil. She isn't what I imagined Ramandu's Daughter to look like. But I'm willing to keep an open mind and wait for the movie before I make any harsh judgments.

I think you're right about the rushed thing. But clearly, the producers are very late, the film was supposed to come out a few months ago but it still is in post production :S So probably it was rushed or maybe they just wanted to make us want to see the movie by doing things fast and letting us with lots of questions ... I don't know ...

Actually, I think they intended it to be a December release in the first place.

Yes that is a good reason why Lucy would see Susan. Thanks for clearing that up. :)

I am pleased with the trailer, nothing except for the scene with the four Pevensies bothered me. Lilliandil is nothing like I imagined, but in a good way. :)

I don't know. I'm still very excited to see it, but ... trailers are suppose to be epic. They're suppose to get your attention and in a matter of seconds you say to yourself "I want to see this movie!". That didn't happen with me. =[

Wow. Wow. Wow. Just sooooooooooooooooooooo disappointed!

No offense, but it seems as if you would only be pleased with the trailer had it been created exactly to your orders. It makes me wonder what your expectations were.

It also makes me wonder if you have read the book at all? If you had, surely you would have known that the Dawn Treader picture was put into that room for a reason? That Narnia is magical and isn't supposed to be realistic? That the actual Dawn Treader looks exactly like it was described in the book, if not more?

It is quite obvious that the scene with the White Witch is Edmund's nightmare.
Lucy didn't put a spell on herself. Where did you get that idea? And how do you know that the snow scene came right after the beauty one?
Caspian doesn't look mad. I can't understand how you could possibly generalize that Caspian is mad because in one scene he wasn't grinning.

You have to realize that not everyone thinks that the trailer must be absolutely 100% perfect in every possible section.

I can't imagine what you would have said if the trailer actually was as bad as you're making it out to be.

Ok, here I come!!

First of all, that Lilliandil dudette looked more like a ghost than a descendant of a star... So FAKE!!! I am very disappointed because Laura has potential for so much more.

Aslan looks FAKE!!

Edmund is turning into a brat, just like Peter in PC... absurd!!! These Hollywood people will never get the main premise of Narnia and Aslan: It changes you into a better person, honorable and humble at the same time. Narnia and Aslan take away all brattiness (is that a word? lol) but I guess movie makers have no clue what it is to be honorable, humble, caring, and courageous.

And what is Caspian doing in the little boat? That is a change I can never forgive. Just for that I won't watch the movie because that is HUGE change that completely revamps the story and that is unforgivable. I am very disappointed in that.
Everything else looks ok, but I am still not convinced. I did like the fact that Georgie as always is giving a good performance. And did any of you noticed that she doesn't talk like a little girl anymore? I loved it.

I don't know how any one of us can make final judgements as of yet on anyone or anything in the film yet, because we haven't seen it.
Trailers are not made with a lot of detail - as someone else said somewhere, its made up of a mish mash of clips from beginning, middle and end.

I had to watch this trailer a few times to make any sort of judgement because we are still having to read between the lines. That said, I really liked the trailer - and it isn't because I'm crazy with curiosity as to what it will really be like - and I can tell you that this trailer hasn't explained well, virtually anything.

I've put some thought into this - I don't know if any of my comments may assuage your concerns - but I hope this somehow helps or generates some more discussion.

1. Edmund: During the war, everyone was doing their bit for the war effort. Boys, especially looked forward to the day where they could see some action - and the day they were old enough to join up. Plenty of them lied about their ages. The passed four years of Ed's life in England were spent in wartime - I'm pretty sure with all the honour and duty he learned both in England but more especially in Narnia would compel him to action.
But let's hold up a second here. Edmund is more than just an English lad yearning for his chance to do his bit for England. He's also a King of Narnia - a King I might add who has seen his share of battles and he may feel as though he has something to contribute. And his reaction to being called "squirt" was only a frustratedly simple answer of "Squirt? I'm a King!"
Here lies the difference between Frustrated Ed and Peter Angst: Peter would have turned around and decked him. Ed simply scowled and walked away.
Now, I'm not saying that I am supporting a Peter angst in Ed - it would be overkill. I'm also not saying I disliked Peter's character arch in Prince Caspian at all - I fully advocated it - but I am just saying that Ed's reaction is different. Which leads me to my next comment:

2. Peter: Where is Movie Peter? Is he studying with the professor for his entrance exams to university? Hold on - wait up - isn't it still wartime? Peter, I believe, could be old enough to join the army at this point. If they have had Peter join the army, in explanation for his whereabouts instead of the professors - it would be historically accurate in our world. I can't imagine someone of Peter's character - who would chose to go to University instead of fighting in the war. I know that wouldn't be accurate with what is in the book, but I'm just saying - because they changed Peter's age in the movie...it would make more sense for having him join up.
And if he did join up - wouldn't that explain Edmund's behavior even more? It was rare that Ed and Pete did not go to battle together in Narnia (with of course the noted exception of Peter fighting giants, and Edmund's official tour of Calormene). I would imagine that if Peter joined up, Ed WOULD find it frustrating that he couldn't go to.

3. Peter and Susan: I was a little thrown by this as well. Not because they were there - I was expecting a cameo - but because it appears that they were wearing Narnian clothes and not English clothes. That's because I was hoping to see them in England in the movie, not particularly in Narnia, but I feel well assured by certain Narnian authorities that this is from one of the dream sequences/memories and is now not something that concerns me anymore.

4. Liliandil: I just found out Ramandu's Daughter's name - I am very excited firstly, about her name, and I think she's going to be very very lovely. I also like the concept of her showing up in other parts of the movie before they actually meet her on the island. However, I am not a fan of the way she is glowing. I would imagine she would sparkle, but the glow is terrible. It looks like bad 80's special effects. That said - if she can fly like that up to the heavens - how on earth is the Green Witch going to kill her in Silver Chair?

5. Caspian and Eustace: Not very much of Caspian, obviously, but we'll see lots of him in the movie. Eustace, on the other hand, they're probably keeping a secret to lure us into theatres because we're all curious about him;) Same goes for Dragon Eustace...I have a feeling its because it's going to be the best part of the movie...

6. Coriakin, his house and the Dufflepuds look really good. And Lucy is wonderful and grown up :)

Movies are never exactly as the book is. I, for one enjoy all the enhancements they give me - CS Lewis wrote in subtleties - meaning that he left a lot of room for additions and interpretations. I've been a writer since I was a girl - and I've always been fascinated how he can describe something in a couple words that others would use a whole paragraph for.
He once received a letter from a young fan asking him if he were going to write anymore stories of Narnia. He wrote back and said no, but that there were a lot of adventures that happened in Narnia, and that we (the fans, the young writers) ought to write about them. I think he'd love the fullness of these movies.

Something to consider about trailers, not all of the material you see is featured in the final cut. A good example is Iron Man 2, in the trailer Tony Stark sports his in suite without a mask, Pepper is there and Tony asks for a smooch for good luck. Pepper instead kisses the Iron Man mask she is holding, taunting Tony. She the tosses the mask out of the back of the plane why wishing Tony good luck.

Tony then jumps out of plane and turns in rotation saying "you complete me." This entire scene is omitted and removed in theatrical release, in its stead is Tony clad in his full suite, mask on jumping out of the plane.

So with that said, don't be quick to judge from a glimpse. You may come to find that these confusing or irrational scenes have been removed from the final cut.
