The Voyage of the Dawn Treader Trailer World Premiere

I put this in the news thread but maybe it's better here:

1. Edmund! What are they doing to him?! Is he going to be the same spoiled brat Peter was in PC? That will be the end of Narnia films for me if they are.

2. Aslan. I was glad to see him there! But I also wanted him to be bigger.

3. Tilda. If she just turns up as Edmund's worst nightmare in that dream island, then it's cool. If she's some kind of over-arching evil that is supposed to weave all the Narnia films together, I don't like it. Who needs it? But we'll see.

4. Ramandu's Daughter. She's going to appear on this ship and give them important information! I like this because PC can fall in love with her all along the voyage, and it won't be this big rush deal at the end.

5. Lucy. Adorable as always. I think she saw Susan in the spell book because that's when she was thinking of saying the beautifying spell, which would make sense as Susan is the beauty of the family. LOVED the winter snowfall in the magicians house when Lucy is standing at the spell book. That looked magical.

6. Peter and Susan. They appeared in their Narnia clothes. What can that mean?

7. The fighting and other creatures. Looks good, I think they will probably have to fight to set the slaves free and overthrow Gumpas, which will add excitement to the story.

8. The Magician/the Duffers. Loved the magician, hard to see the Duffers so quick, but I think I am going to like them.

9. Eustace. I wanted to see more of Eustace!

10. Overall I am encouraged except for now I am HORRIFIED that they will ruin Ed's character like they did Peter's. If this happens, I will seriously not want them to make anymore Narnia movies because it will be clear they do not understand the stories.

Totally with you on all of these Inky. Just saw the trailer today. They need to get over the white witch already. Between Edmund's whiny, "I'm a king," and then seeing the WW (anybody notice she was kind of greenish-tinged now - prep to use Tilda again in SC?) trying to tempt him, it was too reminiscent of Peter in PC. Been there, done that, and most didn't like it then either, so WHY would they dredge that tired element up again?

I hope they don't lose Eustace's character arc in the midst of all their glamorizing. I saw far too little of him there.

Although it was lovely seeing places we recognize brought to life, I was left feeling a little flat that the trailer gives so little information about the story. There was no inkling at all of what sort of plot they have written out for it. It was such a hodgepodge of random imagery and dialog that I walked away from it thinking, "nobody who hasn't read the book is going to have a clue what this movie is supposed to be about. I barely know what it's supposed to be about."

They made it clear from the beginning they would have to make changes to make it a linear storyline, but the trailer doesn't reflect ANYTHING about what those changes might be (beyond seeing RD on the ship, but again, that doesn't tell us anything about the story). Which worries me. I fear it means they are either afraid to give away what changes have been made for fear of alienating the purists, or that they themselves haven't figured it out enough to give us a clue. I don't buy that they couldn't at least have explained the premise of the story without spoiling something. A trailer's purpose is to hook you in and make you want more, and people need to see more than pretty pictures with a couple of unconnected lines of dialog for that to be successful.

I don't know; maybe those of us who were unwowed by the trailer have been burned too much by PC and it has turned us cynical. I'm glad to see all the eager responses here because hopefully they are indicative of the larger target audience reaction, and I want this film to do well. I guess we'll see.

I have to agree somewhat with those who were less satisfied by this trailer.

A lot of it DID look fake. I'm not quite suer how that is occurring in this day of computer effects, but seemingly it is here. Unfortunately the Narnia films always seem to have less effective CGI. But here, somehow it looks worse. Aslan does look suddenly more cartoony or something, but will have to see.

The part where the water is coming out of the frame... that looked so fake and empty. Some of the beginning bits didn't seem so well acted either. The boat looked a bit... tacky? And Peter? Susan? White Witch? - huh?

The trailer was fleeting, so obviously you can't get a real idea of what it's like. The trailer didn't give very much away because it was so bitty; but despite it's not so impressive... impression on me, I am still much intrigued to see the film in December.

Edit: Just watched it again and have warmed to it a little more. :) Water coming out of the painting scene still looking bad.

I saw the trailer. I liked it. And I don't have much more to say.

At this point, I don't have any strong opinions about what they do/don't include in the film. I'm just grateful that the movie is actually happening. :)

That's a great prespective and frankly I wish more people shared it. :)

I LOVED the scene with the water coming out of the painting! It looked just like it should(I thought)!
Ok but personally that first scene where Lucy looks up at the Dawn Treader in the water reminded me of the thread "Does the ship look like a ride?" that began when we first got pics of the ship. Hoping they'll make that look a little better...

the part where Lucy and Aslan are looking in to the mirror is where Aslan looks noticeably fake and unreal :(

When my cousin and I saw the screenshot of that scene my cousin said (to match the look on Lucy's face) "This isn't the toy I wanted for christmas!" xD

But seriously I'm hoping thats only because the movie isn't finished yet and that they'll change it.

*stays hopeful* as I mentioned to someone else "I don't like to think about what MIGHT happen..." ;)

Oh my gosh, I hadn't even realized the trailer was out at first. I went to a thing at my church, and this guy was like "Did you see the trailer yet?" And I was like "What?!" And then I couldn't wait to get home to watch it. It looks like it's gonna be really good :p

My only concerns were... Peter, Susan, and the White Witch. Umm... they're not supposed to be there. Oh well, I'm sure they know what they're doing. I'm not too worried.

Good. Then I guess I'm open minded because I am not judging ALL the movies based on the VODT trailer but only the one movie the trailer belongs to.

And just in case the mods haven't told you, on this forum you may attack ideas, not the person. I do not make my posts personal, and to tell you the truth, I don't care if people attack me for my ideas. The mods however don't really like that.

But you're judging the whole VDT movie based on one trailer...
And no, the mods haven't told me anything about that. They wouldn't have to though. I'm not doing anything like that...

I don't mean to offend you, or your opinions, but it is hard not to when your review is meticulously criticizing points, scenes and lines that are barely expressed in the trailer at all.

I'm hoping that the scene with Peter and Susan is either just a vision or a dream. :)

Yeah me too. Book wise, they are not supposed to be in this movie. Movie wise also. They had stated based on what Aslan told them that they have learned all they could in narnia and have to continue their lives in their own world. But, to show something in a trailer that isn't supposed to be in the movie in the first place is strange. It might make people think that Peter and Susan are going to be in the movie after all.

Yeah. When my sister saw an early picture of the brightly-colored Dawn Treader, she exclaimed, "It looks like a parade float!!!!" My mom kept telling us not to get worked up about it, since it was just a movie. I was like, "Just a movie?! They're going to ruin an film adaptation of one of my favorite books, and it's just a movie?!"

I am convinced that Peter & Susan will be in the movie as a dream, a flashback if you will. Or, they will be in the only scene containing those characters that was in the book. (I believe it talks about where they were during VDT)
Apparently, either William Moseley or Anna Popplewell has said that their appearances are only cameos.

As for the ship, I think it looks great. It is supposed to be Narnian, after all. And I do think it fits that quite well.
