The Voyage of the Dawn Treader Trailer World Premiere

Before I go into my detailed opinion which I'll post tomorrow morning, I'd just like to point out how much I love this shot of Lucy:

Screencapped by me. Sorry if it's blurry.

Here's what the outside world is saying about the trailers...

E! Online:
Rate-A-Trailer: Is the New Narnia Worth the Wait?

E! brought up a good point... everyone's forgotten about it. Mainstream culture has totally forgotten about the Narnian franchise since PC. Hopefully the fact that Narnia is so "last year" won't effect how many people see it.

Entertainment Weekly:
'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader' trailer: Return to Hope?
EW meanwhile gave the trailer a good review, and said while having amazing visuals, gorgeous sets, "there was (also) a focus on deeper themes".
In the end he states that he would gladly make the "Return to Narnia" in December.

I think so far Narnia has unfortunately had a rocky start. Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and other movie franchises based off of books, kind of got lucky with script writers, directors, the whole nine yards. They were able to appeal to the masses of those who never read them while still remaining true to the books.
Hopefully Dawn Treader will be able to walk that fine line of appealing to the pop culture society while still remaining true to the spirits of the book.

We all need to put aside our distrust of the filmmakers and trust them that they will make something purely magical. It seems to me like we're stuck in our own "clique". The narnia clique. We don't need to be afraid of letting the outside world in. Of letting them experience what we did when we read the books. The movies are not the books, they are their own. The movies create their own magic completely separate from books. A little kid of today may have never read the Narnia books, but that doesn't mean he can't feel the same wonderment and power of them through the films like we did when we read them. If the movies can give those kids the same wonderment and feeling that I had when I read the books, I'll say they were a smashing success. No matter what they change.

And that my friends is the end of my speech... :p :)

This post has not been proofread or anything so sorry for any grammar errors, spelling errors, or incoherencies... :)

I need not be told that; I was one of those kids when the first movie came out.:D
I just hope that the moviemakers of Dawn Treader can instill the same magic into the third movie as there was in the first, and the trailer makes me very hopeful about such a thing. (if it tells you anything about how much I like something when it first comes out and I first see it- at least for Narnia- I could hardly breathe when I saw the trailer, and I hope I feel the same way at the end of the actual movie!:D)

Well said NoG. Thanks for that. :)

Ok, here I come!!

First of all, that Lilliandil dudette looked more like a ghost than a descendant of a star... So FAKE!!! I am very disappointed because Laura has potential for so much more.

Aslan looks FAKE!!

Edmund is turning into a brat, just like Peter in PC... absurd!!! These Hollywood people will never get the main premise of Narnia and Aslan: It changes you into a better person, honorable and humble at the same time. Narnia and Aslan take away all brattiness (is that a word? lol) but I guess movie makers have no clue what it is to be honorable, humble, caring, and courageous.

And what is Caspian doing in the little boat? That is a change I can never forgive. Just for that I won't watch the movie because that is HUGE change that completely revamps the story and that is unforgivable. I am very disappointed in that.
Everything else looks ok, but I am still not convinced. I did like the fact that Georgie as always is giving a good performance. And did any of you noticed that she doesn't talk like a little girl anymore? I loved it.

The trailer is much too short to make a final judgment on the actual movie.

We only saw Lilliandil in a few short scenes, same with Aslan...and Edmund. You can claim that Edmund is turning into a brat because of one line? It might not be in the context you are thinking of!
The scene where Caspian is in the boat is so short, it is impossible to discern why he really is there. It is definitely not a reason to boycott the movie. It's barely anything major!

The trailer looks good, but inconclusive. I am a little worried about Edmund, but anyone can realize that if they do the same thing to Edmund as they did to Peter in PC, it would be stale and boring.
The White Witch should not be in there. I won't elaborate on this, as I said it a long time ago in the "White Witch - Emerald Witch?" thread.
Also, I'm not too thrilled about the name "Lilliandil." It sounds too much like "Lilliput" from Gulliver's Travels.
To echo Inky and others, yes, the ship looks great. BK, what were you saying about Caspian being on a boat. Perhaps you'd care to clarify that.
Finally, I imagine we just won't know for sure what it's ike until it comes out all the way. Until then, I have two words: wait and see!

Oops, that's three words. ;)

I haven't given any 'written' reviews on the trailer yet (and it's been two days!), so I think I should now.. =D

Firstly, the first time I saw it I was so awed that I couldn't say anything. Not a word. I was estatic that after two years, I was finally seeing THE movie... Or, well, clips from the movie. I savoured(sp?) every moment of it and couldn't stop smiling, though there were parts that confused me. By the second time, I was almost shaking LOL!

Aside from my initial reaction, my untainted (meaning before reading other reviews and really delved into the trailer) opinion is that the movie, if anything like the trailer, will be great! The scene with Edmund saying 'I'm a King' did confuse me at first, but after watching it again, it doesn't nearly sound as arrogant or annoying as Peter was, and it could go any way from there. The fact that he was trying to enlist kind of made me sad, proof that he isn't the Edmund he was in LWW, or even PC. And Georgie looks so much older now it makes ME feel old and I'm only 17.

Anyhow, going on to the attic/bedroom/picture on the wall scene, I thought that was perfect. A picture (hahaha...) perfect scene straight from the book from whats there. As for the White Witch... I thought it was brilliant for her to be in the trailer, as it squashed my fears immediately of her being anywhere else. I like that it seems Edmund might have a tiny little bit more of a part than he did in the book, because honestly he was rather quiet in the book. The scene with Lucy and the book was... So cool. The fact that Aslan roared after she looked at the beauty spell(which was so well done!) and the pages flew by... For some reason that was one of the things that delighted me most, that, and the many parts with Aslan, especially the end of the world... I loved Reepicheep, he looks so cute and yet noble, the perfect mix. And the scene(though it lasted maybe five seconds!) with the dufflepuds(or whatever) was my favorite in the entire trailer...

Lilliandil... So strange to say that.... Rammandu's Daughter looked great, and the fact that she was glowing wasn't bad at all. I just wasn't expecting it, and it was like icing on the cake, for once, a change that I immediately like =D. She is a star, after all.
I'm sad that we didn't see much of Eustace, and even less of Caspian, but from the bits we did see it seems to prove that they made the right choice for Eustace. It's like taking the words off the page and suddenly personifying them... so... Cool :p.
For Caspian... Well, we didn't see him much, and I don't care for his hair/look, it makes him look more like a pirate. But if that's the only thing wrong with the entire movie - Caspian's hair - then I am perfectly okay with that :D. Actually I was dissapointed I didn't hear him speak.. I wanted to hear his British accent. And with his pirate-ish looks and with Stargi-I mean Lilliandil-... Does anyone else feel eery similarities to Stardust? (Not that I'm saying this movie will be like that one, (no way!!!), I didn't even care for that movie, but with the glowing stargirl, Ben Barnes... *cough*) LOL. Though I hope her part isn't huge, having it extended, or possibly throughout the movie, isn't SO bad. Just a change to get used to.

I am positive the CG characters will look better by the release. Aslan doesn't look so well when he's beside Lucy, worse than LWW Aslan, so I'm sure it will look better soon. I'm guessing that's the sad sad reason they didn't include much/anything from Dragon Island lol.

Lastly, Lucy needs no review. Everyone, myself included, knows her preformance will be great, and that as of yet, the moviemakers haven't made her character do much anything that isn't usually liked. Same in the trailer =D!

To conclude, I loved the trailer, even the parts I didn't name (Narrowhaven!), and think it's hilarious that it's taken me five times longer to write a review to it than it took me to watch the trailer... twice. And.. That the review isn't entirely untainted. I've heard a few opinions on it in real life, and read one or two on here before posting, but I really wanted to post my opinions first, not my thoughts on others. The only other thing that I can say is that I have to watch this trailer in 3D or I'll go crazy(!!!) and I officially am counting the hours until Dawn Treader release. The trailer did it's job :D:D!
(longest...thing...I've...ever...posted. *runs and hides from talking too much (sorry for spelling, grammer, whatever errors... =)!))

First of all, I am expressing my opinions without telling others what to do or think or say. So please, please, do like wise. Don't tell me not to over react, or not to pass judgment or not to say what I want to say. I don't tell you that. My opinions are my opinions. If you don't like them, tough! I am not going to shut up just because some of you don't like to hear what I have to say. Please don't tell me again how I should be. I am who I am.

So now... based on what I've seen so far, the movie looks fake. I don't like it. The changes are silly, Aslan looks fake, Lilliandil looks made by Elves and glows blue when Orcs are around. Caspian in the little boat going to the End of The World in open defiance to Aslan's instructions. Edmund being a brat "I am a King!" (whinny brat). No thanks Michael Apted.

Thank you Fantasma. Why can't people have more common sense like you? ;)

Thanks :p

It's good to see a positive VDT review!

I don't mean to offend you, or your opinions, but it is hard not to when your review is meticulously criticizing points, scenes and lines that are barely expressed in the trailer at all. Please don't take it the wrong way. I am, and will continue to be, a fan of Narnia no matter what they do with the movies and it is hard to see people act otherwise.

I didn't say you weren't entitled to an opinion; I think it's unwarranted because you're judging something that isn't even near to being out, that's all. It's maddening when people aren't willing to give something a try, and then all they do is complain about it because it's not perfect. They may still include elements of the book, but interpretation is often different from ours. I don't care how they do it, as long as the themes, spirit, and message of the book is intact. But regardless, I'm one of the few here who points out what we like and dislike (without saying "They've messed it up!") and are willing to give the film a try without being close-minded. You know, if somebody saw the film and you asked them how it was, if they said it was worth seeing, would you go see it? Or would your pre-conceived notions keep you from enjoying a movie? Sometimes, whether you want to admit it or not, you jump to conclusions. And you are sometimes wrong. Sometimes, the BOOK fans ARE indeed wrong. I'm not telling you to keep quiet. But for me and for other fans of the trailer, I suggest we all keep our distance from each other. Because the negativity is contagious.

ndfan, did your fingers get tired after typing that?! I mean whoa. I didn't analyze the trailer that much, but well said.

Why is it that whenever somebody criticizes something it's taken as being close-minded? This idea about being "open minded" is just an excuse to get people to give up their beliefs and opinions about something. Well, I am not changing what I do just because some people choose to label me. Sorry, but if making up one's mind based on facts and sticking to that decision is being closed minded, then I guess I am. I rather be closed minded than a flip-flopper.

And we are allowed to judge because how can one make up his or her mind without passing judgment on something? I am judging the movie based on the sample presented. I have said this before but if anyone cares to study statistics, you'll learn that a good sample can be representative of the whole. The trailer is a good sample and representative of the whole. And I don't like the whole that I am seeing so far.

I am not looking to be entertained, this is why I look at the movies with a magnifying glass, so to speak, so that I can pass judgment and make up my mind.

Those who don't agree with me, on the other hand, you are free to like it or not or to "wait and see" if you like. Me, what I see is what I see. No need to wait to make up my mind.

Criticizing is expressing a judgment of something. Close-minded criticizing is seeing one thing that you don't like and judging everything else on that note.

Good. Then I guess I'm open minded because I am not judging ALL the movies based on the VODT trailer but only the one movie the trailer belongs to.

And just in case the mods haven't told you, on this forum you may attack ideas, not the person. I do not make my posts personal, and to tell you the truth, I don't care if people attack me for my ideas. The mods however don't really like that.

YESSSSSS! its here! its finally here after 2 years of waiting :D
though Tilda Swinton's appearance totally took me by surprise. didn't imagine the white witch would actually appear in VODT. looks like some people's speculations of a White Witch appearance became true after all.
