I was pretty much fine with all of the changes, but I think the worst was probably Caspian's age. I just imagined him so much younger. Don't get me wrong, I loved Ben Barnes as Caspian, but I was hoping that they'd pick someone younger.

It wasn't an affair! Just a flirtation ...

Hey, Magnificent, I am glad to see you posting!!!
:)

^^I didnt like that at all but everything else was okay, and the kiss looked awkward.
The movie was very different from the book but I thought most of the changes they made actually worked quite well with the movie.

Just the change of age itself wouldn't bother me much, though it would be pointless. The reasons for and consequences of the changes, however, were the real deal. When they announced he'd play Caspian, I wondered why they would pick someone so old, and came out with no answer. Now we've got the reasons, and they're not good ones. =/

I`m sorry everybody but I liked the movie a lot. Sure those changes were kind of annoying but that didn`t distract me from what was good about the movie, but if I had to choose I`d say Peter`s personality was the most annoying one.

You don't have to apologize for liking the movie a lot -- I liked it a lot, too!

I just thought it could have been better had they been more true to Lewis' themes and story. The movie was terrific and a greate adventure story; I just didn't find it a great Narnia story.

At first I didn't like the changes in Peter's personality, but they can still pull it off in the movie... I thought the Miraz' castle battle scene was a pretty cool scene, but it nearly made me cry... I just got kinda annoyed by the fight between Peter and Caspian

Exactly!

Inkspot, again you have demonstrated to me that in regards to all things Narnia, we are indeed kindred spirits. To quote a favorite character in the Newsies, "I say that what you say is what I say."

I had a hard time picking ONE on that poll. I ended up picking the castle raid because I HATED the end of it so much. It had some excellent scenes, especially Reep and Edmund's torch, and it gave Miraz some good lines, but other than that, I nearly cried. Also, when I saw the previews before the movie came out, clips from that scene irritated me because I knew then that the changes made in LWW were going to continue. I've gotten over the accent, I've gotten over the whole Caspian's age thing, it doesn't affect the movie that much. But the Caspian/Peter and Caspian/Susan changes still grieve me.

Thanks, Elentari! I agree with you, obviously ... Barnes did fine for the role they gave him; I can even dismiss the Susaspian thing. But warrior Susan and bad Peter ... :(

It's sad but true that nearly everyone who has read the books is aggrieved by the disheartening changes made to their favorite characters.

Peter being an arrogant jerk got to me the most. Lines such as these were the real turn off for me.

"Well that explains it... YOUR WRONG!", and "Your people INVADED Narnia! You don't belong here any more than any of the other Telamarines including YOUR FATHER!"

The arrogant jerk Peter really got under my skin and made me like the movie less each time I watched it.

It might help if you think a bit more about Peter`s situation and what is actually going on between Peter and Caspian from shortly after they meet.
Since, unlike the book he has not met Aslan, Peter has issues concerning his inability to see him and is very aware of the burden of leadership he`s carrying as High King.

The REAL jerk is Caspian who at that point is behaving as an arrogant Telmarine prince who thinks he knows everything.
Remember, the failure of the castle raid is due entirely to Caspian, he fails to open the portcullis when he was supposed to and all his subsequent actions achieve is to allow Miraz to escape and alert the Telmarines.
The deaths of all those Narnians in the courtyard is ALL CASPIANS FAULT!

welcome AsbelMctalisker, glad you've joined us.

but you see, you are just telling us that because the movie did not follow the book, things messed up really bad.. didn't it?

Caspian becomes a "jerk" and Peter is "bossily annoying"..

that's our disappointment. the movie was a far-cry from the book.

anyway, welcome again and enjoy! :)

Exactly marshwiggle...everything that makes us angry--Peter's behavior, Caspian's behavior, Susan's "thing" with Caspian, the cause and effects of the castle raid--NONE of it would have happened if they had followed the book more closely, BUT everything we DID like (Reepicheep, Lucy, the duel) would have because it DID. Even the battle scene where Caspian leads the Narnians to make the ground collapse and the Trees get involved--some of it is artistic license on what Lewis wrote, but none of it ANGERED fans. There's a fine line to draw, but it should be drawn and it should be honored.

Part of the problem as I see it is that the book itself is rather difficult to adapt due to its rather broken backed structure.
Lewis is actually trying to tell two stories at once, the return of the Pevensies to Narnia and that of Caspian.
This means that the book starts with several chapters about the Pevensies, then several about Caspian then back to the Pevensies again before the two stories finally merge at the end.
This just about comes off in the book but is unworkable in a film script.
I know myself that the film is far from perfect but I`m prepared to accept it on its own terms. this is only the second attempt to make a visual adaptation of Prince Caspian and the old BBC version did`nt exactly work either.

Asbel, I understand what you're saying, but I think Adamson is a good enough filmmaker to where he could have told two stories at once or adapted the book in a more cohesive manner than he did. If you look at LOTR TT, there are three stories going on, and PJ managed to tell them all convincingly. And not perhaps coincidentally, one of those stories is just three guys running for a lot of the time ... People say the Pevensies just walking would have been a boring movie (as they try to get to Caspian), but would it have been? PJ didn't seem to think three guys running was two boring to leave in TT.

Asbel, I have proposed how Adamson could have married the two stories wonderfully. I agree that just doing a lengthy backstory uninterrupted would not have been good and a boring boat ride and walk would not be good for a movie. My idea was to have Trumpkin telling the backstory while they are escaping the island and ending at the gorge when Lucy first sees Aslan. Every few minutes during a transition of scenes in the backstory, they could flash to the Pevensies and Trumpkin on their journey for a minute or so.

But the staggered story that was in the book was a very small part of the problem. Adamson and the writers chose to make drastic changes to the story and characters that had nothing to do with the problematic aspects of adapting a book to a movie. Peter's attitude and the castle raid were not changes made due to the problems of adapting the book. They were intentional changes meant to make the movie supposedly more attuned to the modern times.
