Overview
Netflix acquired the rights to The Chronicles of Narnia in 2018, securing the first-ever deal to adapt all seven books in a unified film and television series. The project is being developed by Netflix’s film and TV divisions, with multiple adaptations planned. Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Greta Gerwig (Barbie, Little Women) has been tapped to write and direct at least two of the upcoming films.
The first Narnia movie is set to release in IMAX theaters on Thanksgiving 2026, followed by a streaming debut on Netflix in December 2026.

Which Narnia Story is Being Adapted First?
Netflix has not officially announced which book is being adapted first, but casting calls for child actors around age 10-11 suggest The Magician’s Nephew could be the starting point. If true, this would mark the first-ever film adaptation of the book, exploring the origins of Narnia, the creation of the world by Aslan, and the rise of the White Witch.
