Review by Carolyn
This movie was better than I ever could have imagined it would be! I first read the books more than twenty years ago and have reread them several times. I am writing this after having read Mariella's review. She expressed really insightful, thoughful views, as a true fan of the books. BTW, I agree completely with her as Reepicheep being her, possibly, favorite character in the series. "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" is my favorite book of the Chronicles.
I was stunned at how closely the director/screenwriter kept to the book! It truly must have been in keeping with Lewis' vision. The actors protrayed the characters of the book phenominally.
Mariella expressed some disappointment at the scene where the children were in the water when the icy river broke up, but I thought it was a great addition to show the transition that Peter took from being an English school boy to the High King of Narnia, even though it varied from the book. It added to the adventure and made for a more exciting appeal to the mainstream viewers. Keep in mind that it must have very warm water to have broken the thick layer of ice over the river. And, keep in mind that the book is fantasy, even though it provides a fantastic allegory to the story of the sacrifice of the Savior.
In all, the Chronicles of Narnia (all of them) are fabulous books, and this movie exceeded all of my expectations. The movie was fabulous! Very few movies prove to be as great as the books they were inspired by. Anyone who likes big screen productions should see it. Anyone who likes movies should see it! And anyone who likes the Chronicles should see Mariella's review, because it made some realy great points.
