"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe", was a very good movie. The heart of Lewis's book was there to be found in the movie. The four main characters were all well done, and their relationships with each other develop naturally and effectively. The movie dramatizes the realities of World War 2, which I think was a good idea, since it has been more than 60 years since the events described; movie-goers need to understand the dire reason for the Pevensie children to be in Professor Kirk's house. The screenplay is exquisite, in having the world of Narnia revealed through the eyes of Lucy. The battle is lengthened, and there is no "romp", which is the only thing I really missed; but it seemed necessary to the screenplay, which was taut and suspenseful. The additional action scenes made sense for a movie, and did not detract. It was moving, and a great celebration of Narnia. I'm hopeful that many new readers will be attracted to the books through the movie.
