I grew up with the books and every time I read them they get better and better. There's so much for everyone in them: humor, a simple story for little ones, complex undertones for older people who like to meditate on what they read...

The movie looked gorgeous. Costumes were stunning, the scenery was beautiful, and the Narnian world came alive. However, I want to know who it was that thought he could write better than CS Lewis. There are two main areas that this re-writing of the dialog bothered me.

1. Lucy meeting Mr. Tumnus. That scene in the book is one of the sweetest and it was just like it in the movie - except for the dialog. They could have put that scene up on the big screen, but somebody thought that he had better ideas that the original creator and the scene fell flat on its face.

2. The Hunt for the White Stag. While this part of the movie looked gorgeous, I couldn't stand the dialog. The fancy Narnian speech in the book always makes me laugh out loud but in the movie it was way too American and cheesy. I'm glad it was there, and the Narnian speech probably would have confused modern audiences, but still, would have liked to see that scene left in-tact.

There were many other little spots where Lewis's dialog could have been left alone but somebody decided to tamper with it. Lewis is a literary mastermind, don't ruin what you don't have to!

Overall, I won't mind watching this movie with my children someday, as long as they've already read the books and formed their own impressions of Narnia and Aslan. If people watch the movie and then buy the books to find out more then it's not a bad thing, but it should never take the place of the books.
