Past Watchful Dragons Conference Update

The website for the “‘Past Watchful Dragons’: Fantasy and Faith in the World of C.S. Lewis” conference to be held November 3-5, 2005 on the campus of Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, USA (which will include The Nashville Symphony’s performance of Howard Shore’s The Lord of the Rings Symphony) has been thoroughly updated to include the specific details about the event. Online registration and ticket sales begin April 1, 2005. The Call for Papers remains open through May 1, 2005.

‘Best of C.S. Lewis,’ 5-week course, scheduled at church

St. Charles the Martyr Episcopal Church will host a five-week course entitled “The Best of C.S. Lewis: Part Two.” The course is open to the public and attendees need not have attended part one last year. C.S. Lewis, who died in 1963, was a scholar at Oxford and Cambridge Universities. During World War II he was heard weekly on the BBC radio as a voice of comfort and encouragement.

CS Lewis: Collected Letters Volume II

This is a big book. It’s not to be read at one sitting. It’s for dipping in and out. Lewis was plainly a hugely gifted man and I found his letters endlessly fascinating. When he’s writing to his fellow Christians he can be profundity itself. In one he describes an evening spent with fellow theologians (including Tolkien) mulling over Matthew 7:14.

Taylor University’s Insight into Lewis

Sponsored by the C.S. Lewis And Friends Committee, this event will present a side of Lewis seldom seen by the general public. Walter Hooper, private secretary to Lewis who is closely affiliated with the Lewis estate, will speak at the event.
