Dawn Treader to begin filming in Queensland this year?

Narnia Fans Spy Luke sent us an update about the third Narnia film. According to the report, they might be shooting in Queensland in Australia before the end of the year!

Screenhub, a well respected professional site in the Australian film industry, is reporting that it is almost a done deal that Voyage of the Dawn Treader will begin filming in Queensland before the end of the year (Village Road Show is currently putting the finishing touches on a new processing lab on the Gold Coast that would be used for the film).

The original story is only available to paying members of Screenhub, however Ain’t It Cool News, picked up the story as well:

ScreenHub, doing a lot of heavy lifting this week, has also mentioned that the third NARNIA movie, VOYAGE OF THE DAWNTREADER is very likely to shoot in Queensland this year. Apparently, one of the conditions is that the Gold Coast needs a new processing lab, and Village Roadshow is currently in the process of opening one. NARNIA and GREEN LANTERN both filming in Australia. And you thought our weakened dollar was a bad thing.

  1. Good. The sooner they start filming VDT, then the sooner it will come out!! 😀 Queensland sounds like a good place to shoot it. (Does a little cheer.)

    • The more successful Dawn Treader is, the more likely we’ll see more Narnia films reach the big screen. Walden Media would love to produce all 7 books.

  2. I could have sworn it was going to start filming this month. Now it’s “maybe this year.” At some point I have to wonder if their hearts are really in it.
Seriously, what is with the holdup? Disney played this same game of delaying production month after month after month, and now we know why – they were trying to nix the deal. This doesn’t bode well.
I suppose they’re legally obliged to rewrite the script 6 or 7 more times, because it still bears a faint resemblance to something written by C.S. Lewis. On some level, they have to know that the success or failure of the franchise comes down to the presence or absence of a certain scene at the end of Dawn Treader. But whether they’ll admit it and do the right thing, remains uncertain.

    • If you look at the news over the last couple of months, for Dawn Treader, you’ll see where Disney dropped the project, and it had to be shopped around to other studios, to be picked up by Fox late last month. Filming was actually scheduled for last fall, and was pushed back because Disney was not sure they wanted to keep going with the franchise. On top of that, the drug wars in Mexico were getting much worse, so filming there had to be cancelled. Now that there is a new studio behind it, the production crew has a new screenwriter on it, making the changes to the script that they were planning and Fox agreed to. Because of all of these delays, filming had to be pushed back, by necessity.

  3. I am so stoked! I was afraid they were going to ruin all the movies by making their own story lines. Just follow the book! that is why they are great! Go Fox! And do it right!!!

    • Same but only for my younger friend who adores the movies. I live not that far away too. Its an awsome place and its so peaceful. I love it.

  4. Awww, I had a feeling Queensland would be more likely than Sydney. 🙁 If only I lived in QLD i would love to visit the set.

  5. OOoh I want to be in VDT Soooo bad I’m in QLD like only an 1hr away from the filming! I hope they do an extra open calls I wanna be in it

  6. Not Queensland! Come to Sydney!
    People in Qld are weird…
jks rather there than New Zealand.
No offense or anything. I’m a Sydneysider, i can’t help my snobby opinions.

  7. PLEASE OH PLEASE continue the filming of the Narnia series! They have been wonderful to have in my family library! It would break my heart to see them stop now! We need more movies like these.

  8. I heard that it will not follow the book because of of the spiritual overtones and because That some of the producers said that they didn’t like the direction of the book because of their preferred life styles
