Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader DVD and Blu-ray Release Date: April 8

We finally have the official release date of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, on both Blu-ray and DVD: April 8, 2011.  Yes, that is a Friday, and a week before the home video release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part I.  We still don’t have the official press release, but we do have this news.

If you’d like to see the full list of possible features appearing on the discs, also look at this story:
Dawn Treader Blu-ray / DVD Features Deleted Scenes and more (Updates!)

Before you start commenting on the lack of a Gag Reel, note that it was mentioned on the other story, and no list we have seen so far has included all of the features.  There are also discrepancies with the lengths of features and things.

Looking forward to seeing a full press release that mentions all of the features very soon.  Also, Fox: Please… stop using the art of the Dawn Treader with only half of the mast.  It’s not close to correct.  The artwork is beautiful, but deserves the full mast.

  1. I wish they wouldn’t cut Caspian out of the DVD/Blu-ray cover in favor of the White Queen. Grr.

    • Probably because they made such a big deal about her but they still should have Caspian on the cover.

    • I think the reason they didn’t put Caspian (Ben Barnes) on the cover is because Michael Apted as well as Fox really tried to distance this film from the “teen heart-throb” approach of “Prince Caspian”, (not that I didn’t appreciate it. lol jk) which is why they probably decided to remove Caspian from the cover. Also, a lot of adventure film covers contain 3 things, something that gives you a reminder of the film (The Dawn Treader), the heroes of the film (Edmund, Lucy, Eustace, and Reep), and lastly some sort of glimpse of the film’s villain. In Dawn Treader, the closest thing we have to a villian is the “return” of the White Witch. I suppose they didn’t thing putting a green mist on the front would have been as exciting… or clear as a “evil figure”.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Caspian should be on the cover as well, but this is my guess as to why he is not.
      For Aslan! 🙂

  2. Actually its before the Deathly Hallows DVD comes out 😉 (comes out on the 15th in the US and 11th in the UK).
SO excited for the Dawn Treader DVD! The extras sound great 🙂

  3. Oh man! Me & my family can NOT wait! YES!!!!!!!! The count down is on…..I hope the time goes by fast! I would LOVE to have it be the directors cut (like the 1st 1 I have) though. But still an awesome movie….

When & what will be the next 1 in theaters?

  4. I want that for my B-day but it’s not till September and I’ll probably won’t be able to get till then 🙁

      • My birthday’s May 2nd, a lot closer to the release date. But I can’t wait that long! I waited for 2+ years for the movie to be out in theaters, and now 4 months and 8 days for the Blueray. No way I can wait another 14 days after it’s released for my birthday. I’ll just have to save up enough money to buy it on my own. 14 days might not sound that long, but I’ve waited too long already. 🙂

  5. So, to be clear, the two-disc DVD will have all of the Bonus features ever mentioned? I want them all, but I don’t have Blue-Ray.

  6. This is good news….but Caspian should definitely be on the cover…the white witch only had a very small role!

  7. April 8 is two months away. It’s still at the theater here where I live. Maybe I’ll see again before the dvd release.

  8. One Question: the picture from the news i mean that one with the postcard and stuff will be included in the bluray package??

  9. Paul,
Where should I buy the DVD that will support the franchise the most? Would it be better to buy it on Amazon, or from my local Walmart, or will Fox sell it on their website or what? Will the Narnia franchise make more or less money if I buy the DVD at different places?
(By the way – I’m a first time commenter!)

  10. YA!!! My birthday is April 11. What a great birthday gift for me. I hope my parents will buy this dvd for my birthday!!!!!! 🙂

  11. I am the most sad that the three BTS featurettes will not be included on the 2-disc DVD version, only the Blu-ray. Are we sure about that?

  12. Paul Martin, I have a question. If you could answer it that would be great:) There is a bookstore that i always shop @ and they are giving me a cheaper price if i pre-buy VDT. i can pre-buy the Special edition, DVD, or 3-disc blu-ray edition. I’m just wondering if the Blu-ray would have all the same special features on it that the special edition does? I want to make a good purchase and i love blu-ray but also want the special edition. sooooo….?

  13. Boooo, harry potter! Narania beat it up!!!
I am happy if harry potter becomes the worst movie series ever !!! I hate harry potter it is stupid!!! I would rather watch Narnia, Star Wars and the Lord of the Rings movies! I don’t like it at all. It is a stupid story line! Narnia is at least modest to watch! ( How can people watch it. all that stupid witchcraft and evil. one of the worst movies to be. In my oppion!)Hope this doesn’t offend anyone ,but I am tired of hearing about harry potter, it is sick to my stomach, I couldn’t live with someone who reads, collects, watches or does any thing with it! I would throw it in the trash and burn it!!!!
Go Narnia beat it to the top !

  14. why is there no 3D bluray release of this??? I know that a lot of time and effort was done in post production to get the 3D effects to work and not be a repeat of the ‘Clash of the Titans’ remake 3D’ing debacle. Also, why is the film’s aspect ratio changed for the home video release – the film in the theater was 2.35, here though it sounds like the film is now full frame 1.78 – was this okayed by the director? And the sound – this was Fox Studios first discrete 7.1 surround sound release for the cinema, yet from what I can tell, they did not encode the bluray as such and it’s just the standard 5.1 soundmix – it really begins to sound like Fox really shafted the bluray edition and us fans with state of the art home theater systems.

  15. Okay, I am really confused about this. I am going to buy the DVD, But I want the one that has the most features on it. Not in blu ray though because I don’t have a blu ray player. Does the regular 2 disc edition come with the post card collection and all the behind the scenes features? I don’t want to buy a DVD set and then realize I should have bought another version after I’ve already spent my money. I don’t get why they don’t just put it all in one bundle so people wouldn’t get so confused 😛 And also does the standard 2 disc edtion come with a digital copy? or is that just the blu ray? If you could get back to me it would mean a lot. Thanks 🙂
