Tolkien Trailer Now Online from Fox Searchlight

Nicholas Hoult as J.R.R. Tolkien

This May, Fox Searchlight will be releasing a feature film based on the life of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit author J.R.R. Tolkien. As you probably know, Chronicles of Narnia author C.S. Lewis was a great friend of Tolkien.

From looking at the cast list on IMDB, we couldn’t tell if any of the cast members is playing the role of C.S. Lewis in the film, but that could just be a nice surprise.

The name of the film is simply Tolkien. The release date is May 10, 2019.

And we have the trailer here for you to see:

TOLKIEN explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the “fellowship” apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels.

  1. Thanks for letting us know this.
One minor point – I don’t think it’s accurate to describe the TCBS as “outcasts” at the school. They were actually mostly prefects and Tolkien himself was captain of rugby. (Not sure whether “outcasts” was your take or the film’s.)
